Mark the 100mb System REserved partition Active if you have it, otherwise the Win7 partition. Judge by size. If you don't know how to navigate using Diskpart then use free Partition Wizard CD, post back cam snap of drive map and listings.
I have the same problem but i have windows vista installed on C and windows 7 installed on D. I really want to solve this problem with out losing my files on C as they are important to me . can any one help with a simple solution or a detailed one as my knowledge in this area is small
thanks in advance.:)
Boot the Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Vista or Win7 starts. If you've lost the Dual boot, install EasyBCD to add the missing OS: EasyBCD (free Download at bottom of page - no name or email required) .
If this fails Mark Win7 Partition Active and run the Repairs again. This should start at least Win7, so you can install EasyBCD to add Vista to the boot menu.
Hopefully you correctly installed Win7 originally from booted DVD so it sees itself as C when booted, as it does when correctly installed from boot and not run from another OS.
I eccidentely make my D drive active too....
So i follow karlsnooks steps, and it works! Many thanks! beside in my diskpart step:
on detail disk, i found my C partition size is inverted to D;
C: 500gb and D: 250gb.
And i realize for first time i set myleptop, my system partition(C:\) is less than the other one. So in diskpart i set my D partition in to Active and restart - windows nicely working.
Now when i open disk management my D drive still marked 'Active'. How can i set it to non active guys? thank you..
We need to see a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image
hello everybody
i just had the same problem, using a DELL XPS M1330 i changed active partition without much caring about consequences. so i spent lots of hours in search of solution.
problem here is WINDOWS 7 download requires the key.
i didnt write down the key, i didnt have a repair image, nothing you can imagine as a system backup.
so i used free WINDOWS 10 ISO to reach the command line, than use diskpart and change partition back to (reserved 100mb) volume 0 partition.
and thats my story
Access all editions from installation media. 7 installation media contains all editions. e.g. Pro contains Ultimate, Home Premium, etc.
