Unable to turn Hibernation on in new Laptop

I have a Samsung R-580 Laptop running Windows 7/Home/64-bit. Still in the first week of ownership. I have not been able to get it to hibernate. Did search on this and other forums looking for hints. Here's what I tried:

(1) Control Panel > Power Options. Opened details on the current active plan. There were four options under two states (On Battery and Plugged In): Dim display, Turn off display, Put computer to sleep, Adjust brightness. I assume that "Put the computer to sleep" is the old Windows XP "standby" mode ... thus, no hibernation option.

(2) Opened Start > Shutdown and it gives me six options, the last of which is Hibernate. Alas, when clicking this, all it does is shut down using the sleep/standby mode.

(3) Examined Drive C using windows explorer. Made sure "Show hidden files/folders" was enabled. Alas, no hiberfil.sys on the system drive.

(4) Opened the Command Prompt in Administrator mode, and executed powercfg -h on ... no results.

(5) While still in Command Prompt (sysadm mode) executed svc /scannow to see if there were any system problems. "Windows Resource Protection did not find anyh integrity violations."

(6) Disconnected "nano" receiver for Logitech wireless mouse to see if a USB driver was interfering ... no help!

Any ideas?

Try this:
Windows Does Not Start After Sleep

That is not your problem, but it shows how to disable Hybrid sleep. With that disabled, you can either sleep or hibernate instead of just sleep.

How much free hard disk space do you have?

Open an elevated command prompt, and enter powercfg -availablesleepstates. Could you please post a screenshot?

Requested screen shot is attached.

Have about 69GB available on sys drive C: .... hibernation file requires 4GB. Don't think available space is an issue.

I don't like the look of the report ... is firmware blocking hibernation? Maybe I can find some switch in the BIOS ...

Ok, first off, check advanced power options and make sure (under sleep) that Hybrid sleep is DISABLED. Is it?

Second, you will need to boot into BIOS and make sure S3 option it checked.

(1) There were NO sleep options in the BIOS. I get the feeling that this is a Samsung customized BIOS, and not an off-the-shelf version.

(2) Power Options > Advance settings ... has two catagories that specify hybernation:

[] Allow Hybrid sleep
On battery: off
Plugged in: off

[] Hibernate after
On battery: Never
Plugged in: Never

.... plus, it has

[] Sleep after
On battery: 15 minutes
Plugged in: Off

Suggestions? Do I have hibernation sleep only and am I unable to implement
100% hibernation?

Just looked at Microsoft's FAQ on Windows 7 hibernation ... apparently they designed Hibernation for laptops and Hybrid sleep for desktops, and there appears to be some current drain on the battery when you use hybrid sleep ... is this the correct understanding? They also say "Sleep requires an extremely small amount of power. If your laptop battery charge gets critically low while the computer is asleep, Windows automatically puts the laptop into hibernation mode."

Confusing!

That is odd. Try opening command prompt as admin and type:
sfc /scannow

Alright, that is good I suppose.

Would you happen to have any programs installed that would prevent hibernation?

New computer. Not much installed. OpenOffice 3.0; Photoshop CS4. A few more web development utilities. Except for a trail version of MS Office 7 (which I'm not executing ... just haven't taken it off yet ... prefer OpenOffice), I've run this same software group, plus others, on a Netbook that is running Windows 7/Home 32-bit (my new laptop is 64-bit).
