    Pentium M 2.6Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 80 GB

how will win 7 perform on such a platform, will it be slow, fine or excellent, on 1.6GHZ Core2 duo, 1GB RAM Dell Vostro, sometimes application (Word, Acrobat, IE, FF etc)takes time to open, even though windows only consumes 70-75% of memory

I have an old laptop with a 2.0 GHz Pentium M, 1.25 GB of RAM and an 80 GB HDD. Windows 7 works better and faster than XP. The same for the old Compaq with a 1.8 GHz Celeron and 1 GB of RAM. Smooth and fast. Go for it!

    Bye.

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It scans your hardware, devices, and installed programs for known compatibility issues, gives you guidance on how to resolve potential issues found, and recommends what to do before you upgrade.

Download details: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

    Win7 hardware requirements:

    • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor
    • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
    • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
    • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
However, if possible, upgrade your RAM to the maximum supported. That'll give you the biggest bang for the buck in terms of speed increase. With your current config, 70% RAM is being consumed with only a few apps open. So RAM is the bottleneck. You can also use Readyboost.
