Windows 7: Mystery Problem: Resume from Sleep

Occasionally when I wake up in the morning (I think the computer has gone to sleep overnight), turn on my screens and try to get Windows 7 to respond, nothing happens. The computer is running and the displays are getting a signal (I don't get the "No Signal Input" from them) but they appear to be suspended. No form of mashing on keys or anything will cause the monitors to respond.

Here is where things get really weird. When I force a shutdown (hold the power button until it turns off) the monitors still do not respond upon reboot. It is only when I physically unplug my computer and reseat the graphics card (Geforce 9800 GT) that the displays will respond again.

I know this doesn't sound like a Windows 7 problem but it has only occured with the builds of Windows 7 I have installed. I have no such problems with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Ubuntu running on this hardware.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated because other than this potentially show-stopping issue, i'm loving Windows 7....
I am having the exact same problem on my Dell XPS M1530 Laptop!! Have you found a fix yet? Since it is a notebook I do not even know how to unseat the graphics card...I have no idea what to do! The display will not come on and I do not know even how to reload 7 or another OS or just get my computer to turn on...

Sleep & Hibernate Wake up Problems

hello,

same problems over here

-my system is not doing much (streaming video which last +1h 2 my PS3), goes 2 sleep but does not wake up unless restarted-

here r some others having the same probs :
Windows 7 not resuming correctly (wait 4 the full version , hehe)
sleep - Microsoft TechNet Search (a list with 568 threads regarding sleep)

here r some solutions :
Windows 7 RC Sleep Issue fixed - [H]ard|Forum (stop unwanted wake ups from LAN & disable USB selective suspend)
PUSH THE POWER BUTTON BRIEFLY
disable sleep/hibernation mode ? (i don't need it, but i am willing 2 save some resources on this planet)

commands:
Powercfg -devicequery wake_armed (lists all the devices which can wake up the computer)
Powercfg -devicequery wake_from_any
Powercfg -lastwake
powercfg -energy (these last 2 lists the problems with the latest hibernation/sleep mode)

U can also look in the Windows Event viewer which device caused the malfunction & disable the "wake up from" in the respectiv device manager

Hello, friends, from Spain.

Same problem here. Black Screen after resuming from sleep. I have to press powewroff button to restart my computer (reset does not respond). Sometimes the computer wakes up, but after a few seconds or minutes, I get a terrorific BSOD. I remember I had exactly the same problem with Vista, and not resolved until SP1.

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L (rev. 1.0) Mainboard, Windows 7 64-bits and 8GB Ram and the last drivers and bios firmware updates. Windows 7 RTM 64 bits.

Regards.

Hi, I finally found a solution that works for me, and I'm so happy that I want to share with you. I hope it will also work for others, I was really desperate long time. Now my W7 resumes gently from sleep mode, and does so in ... just 2 seconds!

Click here for view the solution:

SOLVED: Aspire 5100 (or any Vista & AMD computer) - Sleep/Suspend/Hibernate/SCREENSAVER black screen or wake up or resume problem - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion

Basically (quoting):

"Workaround Solution 1 (better):

Go to Power Settings, then click on Change Plan Settings, then click on Change Advanced Power Settings, Scroll down to Processor Power Management, and set Minimum Processor State to 100 percent for both plugged in and battery. You won't freeze again when you go to the screen-saver, or at some point overnight when a virus scan/spyware scan makes the CPU try to work hard. (You might never have experienced this problem if you've been using the high performance Power Plan)."

Greetings from Spain

My W7 runs in a desktop computer, not in an Acer Aspire 5100. But the solution published for this laptop has worked for me. I have looked long and long time and I've seen that many people have this problem and they are searching a solution on the forums (also here), without luck.

Hopefully Google will address here

I've got the same motherboard and it has problems with sleep too. I had it set to 'suspend to ram' and it would stop windows, but keep resetting itself. power off, power on, scan the floppy and cds, shut down, repeat endlessly. to recover, I had to remove the cord, or shut off the powersupply on it's main switch.

now ive set to power on sleep and it's a little better. seems like this mobo is not all there in this respect.

I have been unsing sleep with XP and Vista for years now. Typically it took about a second or 2 to resume. The longest thing was to wait for it to resume the wired ethernet connection. Maybe a couple more seconds. Now with Windows 7 it takes quite a while. I have not timed it yet, but I can...
