Two keys keep doubling themselves

Hello everyone. I''ve tried asking everyone I know about this problem, but since they can''t help me, I''m asking it here.

For the last couple of days, two keys of my keyboard were acting weird. It constantly doubled everything.

' becomes ''
" becomes ""
` becomes ``
~ becomes ~~

I was using a wireless keyboard by Logitech and thought it was just a malfunction in my keyboard. So, time for a replacement. I bought a wireless Microsoft keyboard, but... same problem. I tried it hooking up the reciever to other USB ports, but the problem still occurs. My guess it''s something with Windows (7). It''s really annoying and I really hope someone here can help me out.

Hi tara, this is (i hope) quite easy to fix, open your start menu and type keyboard, click the option that just says "keyboard" (its the 2nd one down on mine under control panel) you should get a box with things like "character repeat" on it. try adjusting the repeat delay toward the "long" side, you will probably have to fiddle a bit to get it exactly right, there is a test box at the bottom so you can test to see when you hit the happy medium between it not repeating and waiting ages for a repeat when you want it to repeat

I tried that, but even with the slide all the way to ''long'' it still does that same thing. It''s weird, because there are only two keys which are acting like this. All the other keys are functioning normal. I tried messing a bit with the keyboard settings in Windows, but no luck.

Does it happen if you boot to Safe Mode? If yes, Can you borrow a wired (PS2 or USB) keyboard to try? That would at least tell you if it's a wireless only problem.

I just tried it in Safe Mode and the two keys functioned normally. I hoped they would do too when I restarted Windows normally, but no... So, it seems to be something with Windows?

Welcome,

Try this to isolate the cause

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If that does not work. Type msconfig in search and then select diagnostic startup.

I did the clean boot and the problem is gone. Is there a way to find out what program is causing it? Shall I do a lot of reboots with switching on one program each time?

Once the problem is gone, my instructions tell you how to put them back to find the cause.

After a lot of reboots, I managed to find which program caused the problem. It was "Windows User Access Controler". I don't know what it does, is it alright to shut it down completely?
