And the version available through file shareing is probable hacked and full of security breches.

Those I would not trust at all.

Get you copy from legit sources or risk all kinds of problems.

Huh...

I didn't install it myself, the guy that worked at the store did. How do I know if I have one of those bad versions?

If you look, you will probably find that all, or very nearly all, of the OSes, programs, applications and games for all platforms (PC, MAC, Games Consoles) is available through this method.

I agree wholeheartedly with joel406 in that you cannot be sure exactly what you are getting if you go down those routes, and I too wouldn't trust them. Only software from trusted sources entitles you to support if things go wrong.

While I agree that the shop should be a reliable source, I have seen shops do some shady things. you can check on your computer to make sure it is a Genuine Copy. I will look to see what you need to do.

One option is to get WGA: Windows Genuine Advantage

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892130

This program will tell you if your copy is geniune or not. I dont know what will happen if your copy isn't genuine though..... I think it will disable your background and stuff.

Your other option is to call MS support to see if your key is valid

good to hear. I have seen computers that were fixed in small computer shops with bad keys loaded on them. Also, recently on this forum, a user purchased a computer from a small computer shop and the key was bad so its always good to check. I know most all of them are reliable and do business properly, but some dont. So I cant trust them that much.

Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 on to Build 7601?
Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 to Build 7601? An Icon Pack was saying install on to 7600 only and after I checked my regedit, I learned that I have 7601 (Probably SP1, I don't know). Would I have any problems if I install the icon pack? Thanks.
