    print icon disappeared

    Hi all,
    I have two printers, one being a canon pixma ip4700. I went into control panel to change it to default and I notice the icon has been replaced with the attached. Any ideas as to why and how to restore it welcome. Thanks

    The simplest thing to do may be to uninstall then reinstall the printer software, see if that fixes the problem. If not, try a System Restore to before the problem occurred.

    Thanks again Ztruker,
    Had a look at the link, followed it through but there is no icon shown in the end folder. Lost now, think it must be a gremlin

    What did you see when you used Windows Explorer to navigate to

    C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Device Metadata\dmrccache\en-US\63921eef-8415-4368-9201-f0df4af5778f\DeviceInformation

    On my Win 7 Pro system, I see

    print icon disappeared-prinpics.jpg

    Note: YOURNAME is your account name, the info in red may be different on your system.

    Hi lffoar,

    Copy another icon file (*.ico) e.g. your Samsung one and paste it into the folder to replace the missing Canon one. :)

    The icon file is only a type of picture and won't effect your printer.

    Sorry Mate, I should have thought to say to check the deviceinfo.XML file as well; to make sure that it points to the printer. you can open this in notepad and it will look something like the below. Make sure that it has this line in it <DeviceIconFile>device.ico</DeviceIconFile> and that the Device.ico exists in that location.

    Here's mine:
    ----------------------------------------------------

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <DeviceInfo xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/windows/DeviceMetadata/DeviceInfo/2007/11/">
    <DeviceCategoryList>
    <DeviceCategory>PrintFax.Printer</DeviceCategory>
    </DeviceCategoryList>
    <ModelName></ModelName>
    <Manufacturer></Manufacturer>
    <DeviceIconFile>device.ico</DeviceIconFile>
    </DeviceInfo>
