    Start Menu Search not Working

My start menu "search programs and files" box isn't returning any results. Any ideas why?

Hi xichael, firstly is it not returning results whatever you search for? or are you searching for something specific? if the first, then check Indexing is on:

    • Goto Start
    • Select Control Panel
    • Select Programs
    • Select Programs and Features
    • Select Turn Windows Features on or off
    • Select "Indexing Service"

I just turned the Indexing Service on, but it didn't make any difference.

When I search for a program, I just get "no items match your search".

Is it something specific your searching for? or is it just returning no results whatever you type?

to test, try typing "partition" (no quotes) in and see if it returns any results

Yes, I'm typing the names of programs. Nothing returns results. Not "partition", "notepad", "firefox", or anything else I have installed.

ok, open up an elevated command prompt (Start>all programs>Accesories>right click Command Prompt>Run as Administrator) then type in "sfc /scannow" (no quotes) to check for corrupted system files. Post the results back

I ran "sfc /scannow", and "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"... Any other ideas?

Why in God's name did that just take 3 hours?... At least it fixed my problem. Thanks for the help, Martin!
