Huge problems installing iTunes on new laptop 64 bit

    Hello all

I am having massive problems trying to install iTunes on my new laptop (Toshiba) which came preinstalled with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I've spent hours online today searching on forums trying to find a fix. I've tried disabling my Norton security software, taken off internet protection in IE, changed a couple of settings in IE's internet tools to lessen security. I have had a range of errors, from 'publisher not verified' to 'there was a problem with the iTunes installer', to just nothing happening.

Sometimes the setup.exe file downloads (if security settings are low) but won't install. Or it just won't download. At the moment I can download it but even though I click 'run' either nothing happens or I get the message about the installer not working. I have tried running it as administrator but nothing happens.

I have downloaded all Windows updates and tried again, and still the problems exist.

I tried downloading in Firefox too but same problems. I am at my wit's end. There seems to be massive problems for so many people with 64 bit, I am seriously considering taking the laptop back and exchanging it for one with 32 bit installed in the hope that may work.

If anyone can help me I'd be most grateful.

    Thank you

    Kat

You can Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with 32 bit as you are entitled to use either 32- or 64-bit with each WIn7 license. Everything you need is in the blue link.

You could be suffering from the typical load of preinstalled crapware which most tech enthusiasts ditch by clean reinstalling. I would start with uninstalling Norton then at the minimum Clean Up Factory Bloatware.
Establishing a Clean Boot may help get Itunes installed.

Thank you Gregrocker - but I finally at the eleventh hour (literally!) got it to work: it was automatically downloading into my downloads folder and wouldn't install/run from there. So I downloaded the .exe file directly to my desktop and low and behold, it installed fine! Just brought in my old library etc and all working well. Hope this fix may help others :)

Was this a Downloads folder on a different drive or partition? This can sometimes cause permissioning errors. It's one of the reasons I don't recommend moving User folders off of Win7 drive any longer, but instead linking a folder on different drive via Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums

Not sure. It was under Katrina downloads. I don't know if that's partitioned. It's a laptop, 640GB.
