Security Issues

Hi,
I am accessing an old desktop hard drive that had Windows 98. When I go to a folder I am told I don't have permission to view the contents. I go in and take ownership and change the security settings, giving myself full control, and making sure the folders and subfolders and files are included. However, when I open the folder, I still have to go in and change each individual picture's security information. Often I get an error message that an error occured while applying the security information.
I've tried taking ownership of the drive itself, and that did not help. Is there a way to do this?

I followed the instructions and took ownership of the main file folder, but when I go into the other folders I still cannot see the pictures. I have to right click on each picture and take ownership and add my laptop to have full control.

I don't have the option to take ownership when I select all.

Yes, when I hit Cntrl A, it selects all the pics. I then right click and the take ownership is not there.
Even if I take ownership of each picture, I still have to go in and change the security settings and add my current user name, and full control.
Strange thing is, some of the folders will now open and display all the pics without a problem. I don't understand why, they all came from the same computer.

I just did it again, and the Take Ownership was there. I took ownership of everything, but it didn't do the trick. I still have to go into the individual files.

Maybe this will help. I believe the ones that I have to go in and get full control of are scanned photos. I don't know why that would matter, but the other files seem to have digital camera pics that were downloaded. The hard drive is about 4 years old, but if memory serves, that seems to be the case with the discrepancies between the files.
