    Hidden User

My brother just got a new Win 7 netbook, and my dad, knowing I have decent experience with Win 7, would like me to moniter what he is doing. To do that, I think it would be much easier if I had a hidden admin account to monitor what he is downloading, installing, and such.

If this is possible by any means, please post so. =)

There's a built-in Admin account that is hidden. But be careful with it because it can run any program without bringing up UAC prompts.

That hidden account should be used sparingly, but it will work

In lieu of that, I suggest this

User Account - Hide - Vista Forums
Works just as well with 7

Sorry, actually this isn't quite what I want. I'm looking actually for something that is hidden when you go to the login screen, and can bring up with a shortcut or such.

And unfortunately I only have Windows 7 Home Premium. I'll keep in mind to post that when asking for such things.

    Thank You anyways.

Unfortunately, there is no option to hit "CTRL + ALT + DELETE" to bring in the classic login menu, like in XP. You can only enable and disable classic login, and that's not an option in Home Premium. Sorry

Torongo, if he is on the same home network as you are, and you are both on the same workgroup (right click my computer > properties > computer name), you can use a program called GenControl to remote into his computer without him knowing.

The netbook does need to have remote access enabled, however.

How is he connecting to the internet then?

It sounds like you want monitoring software, not a user account...especially if you want to track downloads, websites, etc.

You can set W7 versions to not display the last user name and also require Ctrl + Alt + Del by editing the the registry key --

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

add a dword value of 0 to disableCAD
and a dword value of 1 to dontdisplaylastusername

I think I remember one of those 2 dword's is not already there and needs to be created. This will require you to press Ctrl + Alt + Del and enter your user name and password. A list of users will not be displayed. I have attached a reg file you can import if that's easier.
