Windows 7: Windows 7 not as popular as I thought...

Maybe, but many will upgrade thier computer over the next 3 years as well. Only people who will wait are those who need to get a new comp 6 months before Win8.

As well, businesses will still be transferring over and aren't going to hop onto Win8 if Win7 is tested and stable and win8 is brand new and not tested. You will also be seeing increased use of Win7 by corperations as XP is dropped from support.

That's an interesting point, considering XP's longevity compared to other MS OS's.

Bring on Windows 8, I'm ready!

It wouldn't really be that fair, since far more people and businesses now use computers compared to when XP was released...

Still don't know why MS wants to rush like that, but only the people like us who even pay attention to OS developments might do that. The average Joe probably isn't even aware that MS wants to release Win 8 so soon, and their pre-2007 OEM XP rig probably won't last until 2012/2013 without intense maintenance that they can't provide.

Microsoft has changed its approach to naming operating systems (e.g XP, Vista) and is using an internal numbering system and the next Windows operating system, Windows 7, is the 7th release. Hence the replacement for Windows 7 is expected to be called Windows 8.
You get a trillion dollars a year for coming up with that sort of logic! Oh how I wish I were brainy

Not so fast, if they keep up that naming scheme to version 10, Apple will probably sue the pants off them, or at least try to.

Revenue, and it's what everybody else does.

The average Joe could even be concerned that there must be something wrong with 7 if 8 is coming out so quickly.

Not unless then call it Windows X. Which I am sure they won't do. And besides, most Apple fans believe everything is already copied from their beloved MAC's...so naming it Windows OS X would only make sense.

I never used to know when a new Windows was coming out until it hit the shelf. But either way you've just proven how illogical it is that MS would rush out a new OS so quickly.
