I am living in Cairo, Egypt but visiting my home state of MT for two months. I purchased windows 7 and it won't activate, it says I need to be in Egypt to do so. What must I do to solve the registration issue?

There have been other instances of people having issues getting "Regional" editions of Windows 7 activated outside of the region of purchase, you may not find a solution as they must be activated in the country or origin. Please remember to post back if you find it to be any other way as I'd be interested in the outcome.
Thank you for your comments. I tried contacting MS on Monday when the situation cropped up but I have not heard back from them other than an auto-respond e-mail. I will be returning to Egypt in August so activation may have to wait.

Try this.
Type slui 4, select the country of purchase (not the county you are in at the time), use that number and make an international, long distance call.

You could try setting your PC to the "Egypt" region/timezone. I don't know if that will work, but if you haven't tried it, give it a shot.
Under control panel you'll find region & location.
