    I've tried to put together some items on my overclockers uk basket for £400 (same as the laptop I am using), and sure, the specs were better than my laptop, then i realized i hadn't included a keyboard, mouse, monitor and OS which overall would have cost about £250 more

    That's not cheating :) I didn't build mine myself, as it would have only been $50 cheaper to have a pile of parts and an OS disk, then my fully assembled, professionally wired and tested, 3 yr. warranty PC.
