Just installed Windows 7

And I noticed it says 170GB free of 218GB on C drive. As I understand windows 7 32-bit requires 16GB space.. why is there 48GB being used when I have installed only comodo firewall, firefox and another driver.. hardly even 200MB in total. Any explanation for this?

The system requirements state that you need 16 gig or free space to run the install. That doesn't necessarily mean its only going to use 16 gigs of space. If that drive previously had another version of windows on it you may have a windows.old folder with all the files from the previous OS. If you did an upgrade then any documents, pictures, music etc gets added to that 16 gig estimate. Was it a clean install or an upgrade? Was there an operating system already on the drive?

There was vista on C drive before, but I deleted the 'windows.old' folder. It wasn't an upgrade, however it was a somewhat unusual install. I had the installation file on X drive(a partition) with windows 7 installed, I ran the installation file from X partition and it deleted the C drive vista and installed windows 7 on it.

This type of install is not unusual, OEM's like Dell, Acer, HP, Fujitsu, do this all time.

OK, let me see if I have this straight:> You booted up into Vista and then you ran the windows 7 setup file on partition x? Did this PC come like this, with Vista already installed and the windows 7 install files on partition X?

Installing from a hidden recovery partition I would consider normal, but the OP states Vista was installed which just confuses me as to why the windows 7 install files are on partition X? Unless Vista was installed over windows 7 at some point or the OP created partition X and copied the install files to it? That or maybe the three beers I've had are messing with my train of thought.

It is pretty simple and straightforward. Vista was installed on C drive by default. I wanted to try windows 7 so installed on X partition and the installation files were there too.. I ran the installation file from there to install it on C. I was skeptical but everything went ok and it installed 7 on C drive and got rid of vista.

OK, I hadn't seen the "Installation drive" thread until a couple of minutes ago. I had to look at other posts by dfs to find it. Um, you could try running disk cleanup. That should empty your recycle bin, etc. If you go to "more options" you can clean up your restore points, that also use up disk space. I honestly can't remember how much disk space my install used up so I don't know if yours is abnormally high or not. I'm sure somebody here can tell you though.
