Disable auto-search whenever i press a key in windows explorer?

    Hi all!

I have a habit of whenever looking at cluttered folders (Program files) to press the key of the first letter of the file i want (say Mozilla firefox, i press letter M).

This works fine in XP, ubuntu, pretty much everything. But windows 7 rather "searches" for things with the letter M, which has a several second delay on my PC which i don't like and/or need.

Does anyone know how to disable this auto-"search
    " feature?

    Cheers,
    soule :)

    Additional Option

I know this thread is dated, but the advice in the link posted by richc46 didn't really work for me I don't think.

    Anyway, what did was:

    • From the Folder Options Menu
    • Click the "View" tab
    • Scroll to the bottom and the "When typing into list view" section
    • Select the "Select the typed item in the view" option instead of "Automatically type into the Search Box"

Normally I wouldn't have replied, but this was one of google's top rated results I got when I was looking for help with this issue.
