    DVD interference with booting Windows

I recently solved the problem why windows was hanging on boot up after the "Welcome screen and logo". It hung because I had media in the DVD drive.
    Link to problem: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...t-problem.html

Now I would like to solve the issue of media in DVD drive preventing Windows from completing boot up.
It was weird. If I did a warm restart or immediate start after shutdown Windows wouldn't load. If I shut down for five minutes it would start fine. Once I removed the media from DVD drive it would restart or boot normally.
DVD isn't set up to boot in BIOS; I do that by pressing F12 during POST.
So is it my DVD drive that is the problem or is it a Windows bug or configuration issue?

I suggest you flash your BIOS and see if that helps.

That laptop should still be in warranty, what has HP said? If the DVD is off in the BIOS the machine should not try to boot anything in the drive that sounds like a bug in the BIOS. Are you positive the drive is off in BIOS the way you can make sure is if you put a DVD in the drive while booted into Windows. Can you read the DVD if you CAN then the drive is NOT off in BIOS?

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear. This is my PC (not laptop) which I rebuilt a few weeks ago and installed a win7 oem.

Your system specs state you are using a laptop. Please update them with your current system so we can better help you. Thanks.

Never had this problem before and it's OK in Linux, but maybe the drive has bit the dust.
