Windows 7 SP1 x64

Other considerations for 32 vs 64 would be your external devices such as printers. They will require 64 bit drivers and some older device only have 32 bit support. Internal drivers could also be an issues for modems, sound cards, etc.

Windows 8.1 Pro RTM x64

Hi hythamnsr,

Firstly, please give people chance to answer your query.

Here is a link to the relevant downloads page for your laptop Select your operating system HP Pavilion dv6755ee Entertainment Notebook PC

As you can see, although W7 is not specifically listed yet (as is common with several other manufacturers), both Vista and Vista 64-bit are listed. Since W7 is based on Vista and can, in the majority of cases, use Vista drivers, there is no reason why you shouldn't try W7 on your laptop. As it is currently free with the RC 7100 version being available directly from Microsoft, you have nothing to lose so I would try both versions and see which works best for you. If trying the 64-bit version, you might need to have the maximum amount of memory that your laptop can support installed - this is 4GB.

win7 ultimate / virtual box

I would install 64 bit and if you can't get all the devices working properly with the right drivers then switch back to 32 bit
