    login screen phantom user account

when my windows 7 32-bit laptop starts up and displays the login screen there is an account that it seems to want to default to called ./user

when the OS was loaded that was the original user account. since then that account has been deleted, however it is still showing up on the login screen. i believe at one point someone may have deleted this account from the user accounts on this laptop, as well as the folders associated with the profile.

does anyone know how to manage this annoying screen?

If you page down to Option 3 you can select on of the blue typed tabs that pertain to your situation.

THW - thanks for your prompt responses and info however the user account was already deleted, so it no longer displays in that screen. I have been through all the settings in the user accounts application and i have yet to find what i am looking for.

    Several things to try

CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If errors are found run several times.

    Your welcome.
If it was deleted then use Option 1 to create a new account.

Use System Restore to go back to a time before you deleted the user account. Verify that the "phantom" account is not there. Delete the user account again and see if the problem is resolved.
