Technically? Yes if the motherboard has enough Sata/IDE ports. Practically? probably not (where would it go? not alot of room in a laptop) Most Lappys that I've seen come with 2 partitions preinstalled (one for OS one for data) How many people actually use the Data partition except as an "overflow" I dont know though
Hopefuly 3 partitions,Recovery, OS, & Data.
Before you do your dual boot, make the Recovery disks.
I tried to create a 7 restore disc and I got an unspecified error near the end. Just love it.
I'm trying to take this one step at a time.
First, I need to make sure I have a DVD that's writable. I put a DVD in the drive and it says it needs to be formatted. Does that indicate blank, not blank, or maybe somewhere in the middle when someone tried to write something to it but never finalized it?
In any case, it prompts me to format the media, but the format fails.
When you put a blank DVD-R in a drive, it doesn't need to format it, does it?

I just tried to burn a chosen folder to a disc and it failed, so I clicked a link for help. It got me to a Windows Help and Support page "Which CD/DVD format should I use?"
That had a table with several configurations and an explanation of Live File System, etc.
Do Vista and 7 not use NTFS? Do I need to get newer DVDs? Shouldn't I be able to burn a DVD-R right out of the box?
Office Depot offered to create a restore disc for $30 when I bought the computer. Now I know why.
And does creating a restore disc effectively give you the installable OS on disc, or is it somehow tied to only repairing or restoring that specific installation or on that particular laptop?
This is the error I get when I just try to create a repair disc.
system repair disc could not be created unspecified error (0x80004005)
Googled it, but didn't have a lot of time right now to read everything. I'll get back to it later tonight.

The disk only includes repair files, it's not able to do an install, do you have any other PC, a friends maybe, that you can prepare the disk on?
I had a brief search for the error but found nothing definitive, perhaps someone else will have better info on it.
So I'm trying to create a system image to burn to disc. But it says to create the image, I need 31Gb. The OS isn't 30Gb, is it? I did put some programs on, but I restored it back to factory settings.
So we used to buy a computer with XP on it and it came with a disc to reinstall if the need ever arises. Now we have 7 that doesn't come with a disc and we have to burn our own to the tune of 6 DVDs?
The Windows disk is not 30GB the uncompressed files are 30GB (which is what the image is) the best way to store a system image is on an external Hard drive
