Windows 7: Libraries and homegroup?

Well, you can do just that, if you link your acc with live ID (similar to .NET pass in XP, but different). Then you can right-click on a folder, go to "Share with..." and select who you want to share it with.
But i still prefer old sharing :)

well, not you cant. Using "share with" doesnt share folders/files thru the HG.... all that the "share with " does is to share the files with the user account on the local pc thru Network folder (not homegroup), therefore if you are on a duplicate account on 7 you dont have to enter user/pass to be able to see the shares thru Network Explorer, or if you were not on a duplicate account, and on say windows XP, you would then have to use one of the user/pass accounts to be able to view any shares.

All this is not done thru Homegroup, its just the "normal" everyday type of share. Just a couple of clicks easier than say XP, is all that is. IT SHOULD be incorporated to work as to share with "users of HG" or "users of network"... two different things.

I know this thead is old, but Digger is wrong.

Once you "Link Online IDs", you can then "share with / specific users and can pic those online e-mail addresses in place of usernames. And this IS across multiple PCs.

I am Homegroup sharing each of the users libraries in my family as read only, but have added my wife and my online IDs to a "Family Pictures" directory located on an Always On tower PC. This lets everyone see the directory (and have it in their Library if they want) but Mom (and Dad when I'm working from laptop) can add, edit and delete files in that folder. I also set up a CONFIDENTIAL Folder which is NOT shared with Homegroup, only shared with MOM & DAD.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with this like I was. It's really easy to do once you get a handle on it.

NOTE: You will need to associate unigue IDs with each user

How can i add a disk to an homegroup? It says root disks can't be shared, although they're added to the respective library in the host computer..
