I changed my default system font in XP (to Segoe or Tahoma or Verdana ) and had exactly the same issue. The only way I could get round it was by modifying the colour pickers dialog window and making the '0-255' entry box wider! Seeing as how I was batch changing multiple system files anyway this was just another one to add to the list.
The system file (in WinXP) in question was comdlg32.dll
The dialog number was 1552
The script line I changed was from
CONTROL "", 1184, "ToolbarWindow32", 0x50012B4C, 4, 22, 58, 208 , 0x00000200
to
CONTROL "", 1184, "ToolbarWindow32", 0x50012B4C, 4, 22, 58, 240 , 0x00000200.
260 being the max size I could stretch the window to (normally 240).
The same sort of thing can be found in the first two dialog entries in Win 7's comdlg32.dll.mui in the C:\Windows\System32\en-US folder.
But, as you say, would it be worth it??
I posted to mainly to let you know, you're not alone/going mad!!
