Change User Name
My computer came with the user name of "Valued Customer". I have changed the account name, but the user name has stayed the same. Can I change the user name in Windows 7, Home Premium?

The only way to change the name is to open a new account, transfer everything over and delete the old account.
To avoid being corrected, allow me to add that you probably can by a registry hack, but I would not try a procedure like that, risking a potential problem later on.

Thanks for the welcome. From what I am reading, I can change the log-in name of the account, but I can't actually change the user name. Even if I create a new account with the user name I want, I can't see how to transfer the files from the original account to the new one.
Use windows easy transfer.
Just type those words in search. Transfer to a finger drive, then transfer to new account. I did it and it works.
Hello Anon, and welcome to Seven Forums.
Sorry, but you cannot change the name of your C:\Users\(user-name) folder itself. Doing so will most likely give you a user profile cannot be loaded error.
In addition, a way around this would be to create a new administrator account with the name you like, then copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.
Hope this helps,
Shawn
