    Changing default setting for downloads?

    Hi!

I am new to Windows 7 and all my attachments from emails download to the defaulted "Download" folder. How do I change this so that I can choose where to save my files?

    Thank you!!

Hi dellhelp, welcome to Seven Forums.

I don't know wich e-mail client you use but with Windows Live Mail if you rightclick on the attachment you want to save you get the option Save as... if you click that you can choose the folder you want it to be saved and change the name too.

I actually use gmail. It only gives the option to "Open" or "Save"...and when I click save, the dialog box for downloads with the progress bar pops up and immediately puts it in the download folder without asking me where I want to put it. Thank you for your reply though!

The default "Downloads" folder is a win7 user folder. You can simply change its location to one of your preference.

Bill2 - Thanks for your reply! Maybe I'm wrong but the option you gave me seems to just change my "default" folder for saving files (ex. one folder such as "My Music"). I am looking to have the option to save the files where I want each time. For example, some attachments are music and I want to save it in my music folder...others may be photos that I want to put in a photo folder. I'm sorry to seem so clueless. I really appreciate your help!

I remember having to change this when I had Vista and all I had to do was uncheck some box that said it automatically saved to my default "download" folder.

What i've read about Gmail, it's not possible to change the download folder.
The only thing I can suggest is to use a seperate e-mail program like Windows Live Mail
and set it up to receive e-mail from your Gmail account.
Then you will be able to choose the folder to save the attachments.
