    Windows 7 RC & Updates

    Hello all.

I'm sure you all know by now but WU has updates available for the RC, but for anyone that's concerned whether the un-official RC that was "released" on 24 April will receive updates, it will; I still have that installed on another partition activated with one of the old beta keys and the exact same updates were available to both the official and the un-official RC.

The only thing that could affect whether or not the leaked copies could get the updates or not would be the keys, there isn't really any "unoffical" copy, since the leaked copy and the Microsoft copy is exactly the same.

my main concern lies on what updates are very necessary for windows 7....since some of the updates are not that needed...if anyone could give me a list of what updates are most needed ill greatly appreciate it.........

Hi, o0chronoss0o! Welcome to the Seven Forums! :)

I would recommend you install all updates - with a caveat - pick and choose from the "optional" updates. Some might include hardware drivers that don't work as well as the ones you get from the hardware manufacturer. You can hide those. You might also not care to install Windows Live Essentials (I didn't - you can hide that as well).

To clarify, I recommend you install all of the "important" and "critical" updates presented by the Windows Update Utility.

The only "important" ones you might wish to ignore would be those offered from signing up under the "SignUp Tool" opt-in program. However, once you've signed up for it, it's difficult to know what updates are a part of the usual updates and what's a part of the "Sign Up" updates without doing some research.

So far, SP1, as far as I can tell, is the biggest factor regarding the "Sign Up Tool."
