I does outshine Vista, look!
Vista shouldn't be compared to ME. ME was total crap and the only 1 thing useful from ME was system restore. Vista provided so much more that one measly feature. Vista laid the groundwork for W7, unlike ME doing it for XP.
LOL omg i forgot about that, how could I. The infamous BSO not so much death. When you ran a CD, then took it out. Remember how screwed you were if you miplaced the CD or didn't label them and had to keep popping in all the unlabeled ones for the file it was looking for? It took me forever to realize that a simple escape gets you out of the scary screen. That stopped with Windows 2000.
I remember running Windows XP beta and when the start up music came on with the XP flying around the the "?" mark making noises.... I was on the beta list and downloaded the ISO over dial up. I took till 5 am to d/l, burn, then install on my POS HP K6-2 500mhz system.... I was in awe when it booted and the music came on.
It was different here no longer seeing the shutdown to dos mode option and why I skipped over ME and waited to get into XP. Before I even had a change to look at ME the complaints were already being heard there!
Vista on the other was the long awaited "Lohn Horn" I didn't waste time getting into there however. In the last 2yrs. of steady use I found that a larger but far more reliable version over XP. The UAC however is fortunately being corrected in 7 since that was just as large of an annoyance for most as the larger somewhat slower response time seen with Vista.
Nothing should be compared to ME. It is a discredit even to excrement.Vista shouldn't be compared to ME.
On about Vista... to this day I have no idea why so many people hate it so passionately. If you have 4 gigs of RAM, which is entirely reasonable (especially if you're on a gaming rig with a $300 video card), performance was fine, stability was great... just had to disable some stuff (UAC).
And the bitching about Vista not supporting drivers was somewhat annoying. On one hand, they don't want the OS doing things for them, but on the other, they complain that it doesn't... well, at least Vista could use SATA natively.
UI design-wise, XP was a step up from 98/2000, Vista was a decent step up from XP, and 7 is a great leap forward.
Annoyance about drivers anyone? That was one main complaint heard years ago about 98! Whenever any new version has come out on previous occasions driver issues galore is seen at first until everything eventually gets worked out. The advantage seen with 7 now is being able to still use the previous version's drivers as well as the new ones to be seen!
Even with 2gb Vista is not as much as a lame bird some would make claim to. You first had to perform a few tweaks like disabling the UAC we all know about plus the sidebar and gadgets to improve performance gaming wise. The stability seen with Vista over the last 2yrs. however tends to put the previous version in odds at times especially for those who elected to dual boot both since it was first released.
