Screensaver will not turn on - NEED HELP!

NOTE: Hopefully this is a suitable forum for this thread. If it isn't, I apologize.

For the longest time now, I'd say about 4 months, my screensaver has not been able to turn on for whatever reason. I did my research online and found that my wireless mouse (Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 is what I have) could very well be the problem. I found, through research that 2 Windows Updates ("Microsoft - Other hardware - Microsoft Hardware wireless mouse driver", and "Microsoft - Other hardware - HID Non-User Input Data Filter (KB 911895)") could resolve it. While it had already said they were installed on my computer, I ended up uninstalling both updates in order to reinstall them but once I did, the screensaver still didn't come on.

I also went through Microsoft Help and they said there were other alternatives such as installing Intellipoint for my Wireless mouse (Which I did) and ending some "PowerDVD service" thing which I don't have. And now my screensaver STILL doesn't work when I have it set. Anyone else have any ideas or tips on what I should do? I also went to CRTL+ALT+DLT to bring up processes and went to the "services" tab and I don't know if there is any service I should END in order for my screensaver to work again. ANY help would be amazing and I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

does it try to come on then immediately go back to desktop? or does nothing happen at all when its scheduled to kick in?

also if you use the "preview" option when settting your screensaver does it work then?

No, nothing happens when its scheduled to come on. When i press the preview button, the preview comes on slightly then immediately deactivates everytime, like something is blocking the signal

to first find out if its a driver causing the issue , cleanboot then try your screensaver

    cleanboot...................

Step 1: Start the System Configuration Utility

    Click Start

, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    Collapse this imageExpand this image

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation
Step 2: Configure Selective Startup options

    1. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.
    2. Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.Note The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.
    3. Click the Services tab.
    4. Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
    5. Click Disable All, and then click OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click Restart.

if it works you can slowly turn boot items back on 1 by 1 till you find the culprit

Well to find out if it is the mouse unplug it and see if the screensaver comes on. If so then you know it is your mouse. If not then move on to disabling other things. Do you have anything else plugged into your PC? Screensavers were only needed for CRT monitors. Today monitors will not burn in like CRT's would. If you have a laptop or a LCD monitor a screensaver is not needed. Most people still use them out of habit and/or they just like them. Will your PC go into sleep mode or is this being blocked too?

Go into your Control Panel under Display and set the number of minutes until the Screen Saver turns on. == Go into Power Options and click on "Chose when to Turn Off Display." This number has to be higher than your time when the Screen Saver comes on or it will never turn on.

Are you sure? 'Cause it's not doing anything.
