The above method seems working. :)
I went and blew out a lot and I mean a lot of dust out the inside of my computer when it came the resolution was different and many icons (but not all) were missing. I deleted IconCache.db using the command shell after using attrib to strip all the attributes that were on the file. However, this did NOTHING for me. So what I did was create a folder on the desktop. Then I used explorer to look at the actual files that in the desktop folder.
I selected all the files on the desktop (minus a couple folders that were showing up just fine) and cut them and pasted them in to the "new folder" I had just created. The icons on the desktop disappeared. Then I selected all the files in the "new folder" and pasted them directly back on to the desktop. This worked for me so I thought I would share my comments with you all.
Download imageres.dll and shell32.dll and place them in C:\Windows\System32.
I have an HP 'Mini' with W-7 'starter' version. (<-what it sez on bottom) 'Computer' does not appear on the desktop & 'personalization' says placing it on desktop is not an option. Any way around this?? I cant figure out a way of creating a shortcut for it, , , ,
