Firefox 4 Wireless N Problem

Hey Guys,

I recently Upgraded my router from the Linksys WRT54G router to the D-Link Wireless N Xtreme Router (DIR-655). As I like to have external antenna's. And Linksys has bad reviews on their new wireless router. I am connecting at the N speed but firefox is fairly slow when loading or downloading any thing but it was really fast when i had my old WRT54G router. Any one had this problem. I rather not have to switch my browser. Any help would be appreciated.

I've tried Google Chrome, Safari, IE9, Oprah. No change with the slow loading of web pages and downloads, Is there a setting with in the browser that i can change to allow it to run fast or is it some thing i am going have to live with.

From what you are saying I would suggest that this is not an issue with your browsers but your connection to the wireless itself(on either end). Do you happen to have access to another wireless N device that you could compare with your machine? That would at least tell you if the issue is with your computer/drivers/wlan or the router/wireless/signal.

We do have another HP laptop in the house that has Wireless N built in. We have great connection from the same browser on that laptop. I am thinking maybe Out-Of-Date Wlan driver?

Sounds like a good idea to update your driver if you can. The other thing you could try if you are able is to check the recommended settings for your ISP connection are set in your router as this is the only item you have changed and your router will set itself up with "default" values.

I contacted my ISP and they said theres not much they can do as its not a problem with there service and to contact D-link and they are telling my to contact my ISP what should I do?

You should check for updated wifi drivers. Then, you should visit the D-Link forums and see what people are saying about the DIR-655.

This problem is on my Laptop not my gaming computer. But i will check for updates.

it seems there are alot of people with similar issues, but one did sound promising.

under the network and sharing centre >change adapeter properties>your network card>properties>configure>speed and duplex option(may be under link speed or some other tab depending on network card).

if that doesn't help then i'll see if i can find something else.

Hello,

In addition to the suggestion to Post# 10, from the router setting itself, try changing the Wireless Mode from Mixed or Auto to an 'N' or 'B/G' or 'G' Mode. You shd test each one and see if your speed has improved.

If your Wi-Fi adapter is an 'N' device is shd communicate well with your D-Link N router, is it an N or B/G technology?
