Seek Connection Solution To A Website

A social network website I frequented for years will not come up for me anymore. I use IE8. Last week the site was aggressively attacked so it went offline for repair and protection upgrades. After about a week it came back on line, but I still get the standard "IE cannot display the webpage" w/the 'Diagnose Connection Problems' button that I would get when the site was down. I contacted the site's admin and he said all looks fine on his end. I contacted other members and they can get to it as well. I contacted my ISP and they declare they are not blocking the site. They made the standard suggestions - clear cookies, turn off firewall, try another browser, power-down/up modem & router, release/renew ipconfig, etc. Hmmmm, .... well, a little research educated me about free web proxy addresses. So I grabbed a random US-based address/port and went to tools>options>connection>LAN Settings and put in the numbers. Lo & behold, I can bring that website up. I don't know why this works but do want to know how can I get things back to normal?

Have you tried clearing all your IE temp files???? If not, try this...

This may or may not help, but lets give it a try. When that site was hacked or what ever, your computer might of got infected. Their are programs that are free that could help. Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Super Anti Spyware. Scan with these after updating them might find and remove some bad things. It can't hurt. Of course scanning with you anti virus is always a good thing. To put it simple, lets make sure your computer is clean of bad things. Their are so many things that can cause these kind of problems. If you care to could you tell us the website you are having problems with and what security status it uses. Please make a note of what ever those scans fined and or clean.

Lo & behold, I can bring that website up. I don't know why this works but do want to know how can I get things back to normal?

First off sorry you didnt like the lil joke... and after thinking more on it... it cant be a temp file either. So that was a bad suggestion on my part.

Since it worked when you used a proxy and hide your true IP/ISP, and the issue only came into play after the site was maliciously attacked; I think someone may be misinforming you of any blocks in place. It obviously isnt windows or browser specific, since it worked with the proxy.

What was the site URL for this social networking site??? Is it in another country? Perhaps more info regarding the site and the nature of the attack may prove helpful?

Next time you proxy to that site, use a visual IP tracer (or note the IP and trace it later) find your point of origin, that might be helpful to any real tech at your ISP. Problem is most times when you call an ISP's "tech support" you get some underpaid tool in another counrty. You need a tech at your local ISP's nearest office, I honestly cannot see how it could be a sw issue on your end!

Crosstown Torrents - a community of fans of the late James Marshall Hendrix that share info and unofficial recordings. I do know that the site owner/admin is in the USA. I will can contact the site owner and get additional data regarding the hacks. What should I ask, specifically?

Hmmm... I can hit it just fine, see more about that under next comment (Love Hendrix!). My thinking is if he experienced a DOS (Denial Of Service) attack, it may have affected his DNS status with some DNS servers. No matter what, if you know site owner/admin... more info may be helpful!

There are several good apps for giving you a visual trace...

I recently did a video for one of my classes showing how the Tor network masks your IP through proxies... i had one window open without Tor and it shows my actual ISP IP... then in the other window running thre Tor network it showed a completely different IP. In that example, the 2nd IP traced to Germany! It was also cool to reset and find out where I was after... (my IP that is... I was still in So Cal!)

Now, to my final observation... you're in So Cal, Im in So Cal.... Your ISP is same as me... Charter! I have no issue visiting that site! What area/city are you in? If we are the same area... that will really confuse me as I can get to that site!

Get any additional info you can from owner/admin... ask specifically if it was a DOS or DDOS attack... Or if he knows more about the attack than he's already told you. Anything may help here.

Im down in Riverside, so we are not on same node with Charter...

Since it may be a DNS issue (either with your system or @ charter), try flushing your DNS cache ... if you havent already:

As you maybe "downwind" of a malfunctioning DNS server....give NameBench a try... namebench - Open-source DNS Benchmark Utility - Google Project Hosting

If you try namebench and want to change DNS server... Do you have a router? If so, change DNS there per namebench's suggestions. Let us know if you dont know how...
