I am getting very frustrated as I keep getting BSODs in the middle of playing video. I have attached the minidump file and a screenshot of Bluescreenview with the crash I am referring to selected. The screenshot only shows two crashes, please ignore the second (which is not selected) because that issue has been fixed. The first time the crash happened I was playing a video on my desktop with a program called "Media Player" that acts as a quicktime alternative by allowing me to play .mov files. The crash happened two more times within twenty four hours (the other two times I was away from the computer and came back to my computer rebooted and at the login screen).

At this point I was convinced it was due to a recent windows update because that seemed to have been exactly when the problem started. So I attempted to do a system restore to about a week prior and the system restore kept failing, I then tried doing a system restore in safe mode w/ networking and it was successful.

Everything worked fine since the system restore up until about 45 minutes ago when the crashed happened again while I was watching a youtube video. I have the latest Nvidia drivers and have been using them for awhile so I have no idea why they would suddenly be a problem. When it crashes my monitor (as well as the laptops' actual screen) goes black and says it has been powered off, yet I can still hear the video playing, then the audio stops and after a minute or two the BSOD comes up for a few seconds. The Bluescreen error says that the issue is "nvlddmkm.sys", while Bluescreenview mentions that file as well as dxgkrnl.sys and dxgmms1.sys. From what I can remember this crash has happened one time when I was not even watching any video.

Another troubling issue is that after my computer reboots and I login my desktop takes a very long time to load and is very laggy, so I just don't touch anything and wait a few minutes for everything to load then it is fine until it crashes again.

I am really hoping this is not a hardware problem because I cannot afford new parts at the moment. I just don't see how it could be the driver when I have been using the same drivers for awhile with no issue and nothing has been installed recently that is graphics based. Any help would be much appreciated.

You have one and only minidump in your folder.

Well, this minidump points to nvidia crash.

So,

Download and install Driver Sweeper

Download the most recent software\driver for your NVIDIA

Uninstall
nvidia software\driver,restart in safe mode, run driver sweeper, choose only NVIDIA-Display and clean, restart in normal mode.

Install the new nvidia software\driver,restart.

Update DirectX

Run
the nvidia-video-card-test post here the results.

Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
Leave it to run overnight.

Finish and post back.

I have already done all of these steps except updating DirectX. My computer just crashed again so the clean install of Nvidia drivers did not work. Also, I mentioned in my post that the only reason there is only 1 crash shown on the screenshot is because I had done a system restore to a previous point before the crashes began, which got rid of my minidump files.

I am so frustrated I have done a lot of research on this issue and there doesn't seem to be one solution. I also tried rolling my Nvidia drivers back from 285.62 to 280.26 as this fixed someone elses problem, but even after doing this it still crashes (and yes I did a clean uninstall with driversweeper etc). I will update directX and do the other steps you mentioned and post back, but I have already run memtest before for longer than overnight with no issues.

Hi there, I have this same issue with a client's computer. Did updating DirectX work for you? Have you come to any resolution?

Thanks!

Yes, I fixed my issue. I found a lot of people having this issue, specifically with the same computer as me. I had to purchase a used video card, my graphics card was dying that was the issue.

plugged video card fan - not spinning

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a clogged fan on my nvidia video card. I cleaned the pc and a dust ball stopped the fan on the video card and it was overheating and caused the bsod. i cleaned it, the fan spins i watched the temp drop from 80 degrees C to 38 deg C and no more bsod. The computer crashed just when watching video, playing games or ripping a dvd or bluray.. so don't replace the vid card, make sure the fan spins and can move proper air thru the heat sink...

I've been having the same problems, and just as I was writing this post originally another BSOD:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I've also had:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

But the most frequent are related to IRQL and DRIVER_IRQL
and the same as in the title of post - well one I remember frequently:
dxgkrnl.sys

This seemed to start when I added a DDR3 Kingston 4gb 1333ghz RAM to my-:
HP G6-1016TU Windows 7 x64

it comes with a 4gb 1333ghz SAMSUNG (Samsung supply this model of HP obviously) - at first I thought it was because I was mixing the brands, then I read so many posts that this should not matter at all aslong as you are using the correct Ghz and Slot.

One thing I noticed was that CPU-z said slot 1 (samsung) and Slot2 (kingston) were both running great but at 667ghz....

Could these problems have something to do with overloading the Ghz in the 2 slots. eg. I should put 2 x 667ghz DDR3's in instead of 2 x 1333ghz - I mean I was only following what the specs told me the correct RAM frequency and slot type to use was, and Kingston being a top brand I bought a 4gb and 2 x 2gb DDR3 1333ghz to upgrade my 2 2011 Notebook Systems. (only the HP has been upgraded so far.)

Since the last post and considering I had 5 BSODS since being online 2hrs (the worst in 2wks since I installed the RAM), I thought it was time to to some experimenting.

I took out the Kingston and no BSOD's in 30mins, I should have had one by now as I am repeating what I was doing over and over again, although the messages varied in each BSOD, the last 5 doing with the IRQL and PAGES listed above, but not the usual dxgkrnl.sys came up these last 5 times, then again it has been increasing from 1 per 3 days, 1 per 2 days, to one per day, then 2 per day, 3 and 5 even in one day has been the most tonight in 2hrs....

DriveSweeper is not available anymore, what is the purpose of this, to find out-dated drivers and upgrade them?

can you recommend another free of commercial one to use please. As I won't let upgrading RAM beat me on this, I have been upgrading notebooks and PC's for years and never had a problem with mixing brands, so I ruled that out, and went with the 1333ghz x 2 being dropped back to 667ghz x 2 having something to do with it, although the mention of IRQL DRIVER in the same error makes me want to make sure all drivers are up-to-date, and DirectX is way up-to-date since last update was 2011 on MS's site.

I've also downloaded the other app and will burn to CD and run it when I goto bed with the Kingston back in, but this time I will replace the Samsung with a 2gb Kingston 1333ghz and see how that goes.

If you have any insight on what could be causing this I would be very greatful.

I deleted everything other than today's minidumps as I did a System clean thinking it may fix something, but if they will help, I will upload them. I will put the kingston back in if I get no errors in 24hrs, and then I should have some fresh dumps for you with the range of errors I've been getting...

ALSO - I do not play games, I do watch VLC Player, though not today, and I can't remember getting a BSOD while watching a Show or Movie etc. I'd remember that.
I have the Intel 3000 inbuilt video card that all HP G6 mid-range notebook models around the age of mine (early 2011 1st gen ivy bridge) and Core i5 2400M

Thanks in advance for ANY help or programs you can turn me onto for upgrading and finding errors within my drivers also. I did notice a diamond with a ! inside next to the VIRTUAL DISK BUS ENUMERATOR in the Device Manager section. (If you could tell instruct me how to fix this, It says driver is upto date.).

Thanks again and sorry for taking up you're time - I just hope other's learn from my errors, as reading the web there are LOTS of the same, but no solutions that fix everyone's. (like mine).

Regards,
@jaycameron

I downloaded the GPU test tool as noted on this thread, and while running it, I noticed that eventually it brings up a FULL sized windows, where it does more testing (fps I think),and that's great, but now long does this take ? ( Im asking because it doesn't say anything as it runs, about its running time, though after 10 or so minutes here are zero errors ).

Worked like a charm

I simply noted the BSOD error, then booted into safe mode.

Found the problem device/software driver and removed it completely.
