Indian Summer In December

While the past few weeks have been considerably cooler, the outside temperature in Tulsa at the moment is 68 degrees, and it is still an hour or two until the hottest part of the day, so I feel that it will certainly make 70 degrees, which qualifies as Indian Summer. I know it is not realistic, but it would be nice to think that the rest of the Winter will be as warm.

I wish, we didn't even get that in our Summer never mind in Winter, although at present it is warmer than this time last year my desktop gadget for the local weather tells me it's 48°F and it's been around that mark for several days now though it does mean we are having a lot of rain as well.

It's been above average temperature wise in Michigan as well. We are about 40F today...and running around 5-10F above average for most of the "winter" thus far. From what I have read, according to Farmers almanac, it's supposed to be a heavy snow year...but thus far we really have had next to no snow whatsoever. <- And that doesn't bother me in any way at all. I'm sure it will get here soon enough.

Same here in Wisconsin. Not complaining at all. Supposed to snow tonight,but if it sticks it'll be gone by Saturday anyway.

I expect so. January and February will probably more than compensate for the lack we've had.

Yes, it is forecast to drop to 46 degrees here on New Years, but then start creeping up into the 50s the next few days after that.

Whats the origin of the term "Indian Summer" by the way? I've always wondered about that.

All that I can tell you, is that it is a period of time when the temperature reaches 70 degrees or more, after it having been down to freezing or below previously.

Yeah, sometimes I really miss SoCali, hard to imagine at one point I used to bitch about the cold when it dropped below 50 deg....:roflmao:

It's been off & on here, tempwise on the E coast. A couple weeks ago it actually got into the 60's, but as of late it's been in the 30's, no snow, just cold and the occasional rain.

But a few years ago we had 80 deg weather on Halloween and some 70's temps up to middle December....followed by 2 feet of snow in February...go figure

Boy! Was the forecast wrong. It is barely past noon, and it is already 57 degrees, a bunch more than the 46 degree high forecast. I may go out and do some auto repair today, while the heat wave lasts.

I'm jealous! It's a not-so-balmy 25°F here in New York State.
