Indian Summer In December

Heh, well weather patterns are different everywhere, but this always happens here in so cal.

We get a small taste of winter, wind/rain/"cold" temps at the end of oct and nov. then very frequently it is very nice in Dec. Including 80 on xmas day like this year. It kind of lulls you. You think, not so bad, and days are getting longer now so winter is over right?

Then comes January, February and March to slap you in the face (and April and May too if at any altitude). And even in So Cal it's a long annoying period of the REAL winter left to go.

Don't let the dec warm-up fool you!

Yep.
We have no centuries long traditions so we make them up as we go.
They don't have to make sense as long as we like them.

No one else likes it so why not keep it here.

Yeah I mean this is really weird. We use DD-MM-YY format instead of MM-DD-YY format, calculate distance in kilometers instead of miles, checking temperature in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit, weighing using kilograms instead of pounds, etc.

Really weied. Isn't it?

I always figured we are only weird to others for keeping them.

Not really weird, a person uses what they are accustomed to, and are familiar with. Most of us doesn't like to change what works for us, regardless of what the government wants or what other countries do. I understand the metric system, but when something is specified in metric, I always have to convert it to customary US measures for it to really make sense.

Hmm, the weather gadget only says that it is 57 degrees, but the NWS says that it is 62 degrees, and I guess that gadget is not all that accurate. Forecast high is 71 degrees, but I guess the front that was supposed to pass here yesterday was delayed, because it is supposed to drop to a high of only 54 Degrees tomorrow, and dipping for a couple of days into the 40s, then creeping back to the 50s afterward.

It's not just Americans that like Fahrenheit, so do we Brits, well I do, much prefer the system before they decided to change everything, lbs,oz's, miles, the only thing I do understand about metric is the money part, I will admit that's a bit easier to understand than pounds shillings and pence.

I utterly DREAD the US changing from Gallons to litres at the gas pump. Within 1-2 years gas prices will double or tripple because the "cost per unit" will look so attractively low. At today's rates it would be around $1.00 or even less per litre. People will think it's 1970 all over again. Prices will rocket up to 2-2.50 in no time.

The 70s gas prices were never as bad as they are right now, regardless of how it is measured.

EDIT: I just noticed your cost scale, and it has been higher than that for long time, so I don't know where those prices came from?

EDIT: Oops! I just realized that you were talking about the cost of a liter, not a gallon. I admit that it has been a little while since I bought any gas, but the last time I did, it was in gallons. Are you saying that has changed?

We still use gallons for gas which in my area is around $3.75 which means that if they switched the pumps to litres the "gas price" you see on the signs would drop to 99 cents or so. That would "look" to people like suddently gas was hella cheap! YAY! And would certainly pave the way for the price to be jacked up at a considerably higher rate than it has been in the past.

When people think about gas prices they just look at the price per unit advertised at the street and not necessarily at the total when done filling which frankly I find myself purposely NOT looking at! O.O

That is true, but is this type of change just your speculation, or is it actually being considered?

Petrol prices in the UK are averaging £1.32 per litre, which at 4.55 litres to the gallon equates to £6.06 per gallon, which at current exchange rates means us poor suckers are paying $9 per gallon.

However, the US gallon is only 3/5ths the volume of our Imperial gallon and of course journey distances in the UK are far less than those in the US so our American cousins are probably hurting more than we are over high fuel prices.

As for the weather, I turned our heating off in March 2011 and apart from the odd cold day, it hasn't been switched back on since.

Something strange is happening to the world's climate, that's for sure.
