Solved removed java, add on still in IE9

I used revo uninstaller free advanced to remove everything java, restarted, and the add on is still displayed.


Anyone know how I can remove it completely?

I think the deployment toolkit is the java version identifier or something. Perhaps it checks for updates as well, I'm not sure its exact function. But I don't want it

In addition, I know that Open Office free requires java to be downloaded/installed in order for it to install. Is there any need for java or the deployment toolkit with openoffice installed? Currently, open office works fine for me without java, but with the deployment toolkit. Suggestions?

Java isn't required for anything I use openoffice for, so I don't need it. And I especially don't want the deployment toolkit either...

DustSailor, is the Java folder and it's contents gone from your Program Files folder(s)? If so, the actual dll files (Java\jre(version number)\bin\new_plugin\npdeployJava1.dll, and Java\jre(version number)\bin\npdeployJava1.dll) are gone. What is left is the addon name only in IE 9. If the Java folder remains, these dll's should be removed. A Guy

Hey A Guy, thanks for taking this up. I was having trouble removing it completely, so I reinstalled it and uninstalled it. No matter what I removed last time, the add on remained. Here it is in the search:


So I should just delete both of these? It didn't seem to work last time, could try again though. Anything else I should remove? I installed java on another harddrive other than C. At least I told it to.

If you had completely removed Java from your system it would be easy to say yes, just remove those. However, I am unsure if installing on another drive doesn't indeed place some files in appdata on C: . It wouldn't be unusual for some applications to demand to place some files on the OS drive.

You could copy those files to the 2nd drive and delete them and see the effect. But I doubt it will remove the listing from IE 9. That should have been from the dll's I mentioned.

I hesitate to tell someone else to experiment. I myself would only do so after making new system images I could restore to. If you make backup images, make one (some) and then try.

Some java searches of files:

• "sun microsystems" came up with nothing
• "java" gave only java related to javascript or java as being a part of other programs, such as openoffice, apple, and adobe reader. Maybe I'm just gunna have to live with it -.-

Hey thanks Carl. I wonder if somehow having a program on my computer with java functionality keeps it up there. Oh well, it is disabled. Wonder if there is a way to find out how it gets installed...

Start> Control Panel> If category view, Programs> Java> Advanced tab> Expand Default java for browsers> Untick Microsoft Internet Explorer> If you can't untick it because it is grayed out, highlight the entry and press space bar

There is also an entry for Java Plug-in, and expanded, Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in (requires browser restart). This too is grayed out, see above. Not sure on this one, as it is not browser specific. I didn't do either as I don't want to screw things up. Maybe this weekend after making images. A Guy

Thanks. I already uninstalled java using revo. I don't have jave in programs, perhaps i should reinstall it to see if your method removes the add on?

Tell the truth, if you visit the Java test page, and Java is indeed gone, I wouldn't worry. Apparently within IE it is difficult to disable Java, so the listing not going doesn't surprise me.

The Java Deployment Toolkit takes the guess work out of determining what versions of the Java Platform end users have installed on their PCs. It supplies Java based web applet/application deployers with a simple JavaScript interface. This greatly increases the ease of detections of users' Java environment, as well as the ease of Java Platform deployment.

I don't plan on ever getting java though. And the website you gave requests deployment toolkit be enabled, but detects nothing if i enable it or disable it. Hate when people force stuff on my computer, i feel violated when they do.

I enabled it, but still didn't find it listed in IE plug ins.

Eh, I don't feel like reinstalling java, so I'll just leave it as it is for now. Thanks A Guy

If you do get curious, you could always run procmon whilst starting IE to see what files / reg keys it reads during startup, and get some clues as to what files it might be loading that would be related. Surgery could then ensue if you so chose to "fix" it .

There it is! However, as I mentioned, it removes the manufacturer, but not the remanents:
