Or even taking a file off a camcorder or whatever and converting/burning to DVD format.



Obviously many other good reasons for HT or multithreaded apps, but i think Video Editing/recoding is probably the most common

so. I might take it to consideration. since my work is involved in advertising. I'm not using it now heavily. but might use it in the future. thank you guys. i think i made myself clear. have to take i7 2600k. p8z68 deluxe. if it is not much diff than p8p67. hehe. 4x 8gb ddr3-1866. and an evga gtx570 sc. would that be a good combination of components?

Good advice here, you are going to be limited by which board is available, try PC HUB.

Weigh your options, my 2 centavo advice is the go with the Z68, 2500K, 1600 MHz RAM, and definitely an SSD.

2500k. even though I might be shifting to video advertising in the future? is 2500k able to handle much video edits? I might be buying the p67 since Php3k is the diff from z68. why 1600? i will not ask about ssd. hehehe. is PCHub always on stock? the only problem I can see is that. evga cards are not availble from them. which branch do you recommend? alabang? fairview? or gilmore?

You will have to weigh the need vs the cost, the amount of encoding you need to do or might need to do.
Either one will be much faster than your current Q8200.

From my experience, if I had to choose between the i7 and a SSD, for overall speed and performance, the SSD would be the obvious choice. Depends on your budget and usage, an i5 and SSD would perform better than a i7 and HDD.

The actual noticeable difference between 1600 and 2000 MHz RAM can only be seen on benchmarks, again cost vs need. More important are the timings CL7 or 8 would be preferable over a CL9.

No SSD question? Has it been ruled out or in?

PC HUB usually has stock on most things but, you will have to check with them.
Any location can get stock in a couple of days, Gilmore is the base and has more items in stock than the others.

The 2500K will do you nicely, I would go with the z68 deluxe board, pickup a small SSD like an OCZ onyx 32GB and use the RST which is available with the Z68 chipset. Here is a link to my review of the P8Z68 Deluxe if you are interested.

I'm not much of a fan of benching. since i would prefer real life performance. might be buying on gilmore. since that place drops prices of each computer store you asked in.

Using the SSD for a cache is fairly new, I haven't tried it yet, so I will have to recommend getting a 80GB or 120GB and using it for OS and apps.
Put all your data on a HDD.
You can put the files you're working on in the SSD, store them on the HDD.

I've always had good luck and good performance with Corsair RAM.

Go to the PC HUB site I linked, sign up as a member, give your user name to PC HUB when you buy something and you will get a discount.

ganun ba yun? if not registered? there'll be no discount? have seen their item list. and I've seen they are the lowest priced store on gilmore shops(don't know if others do) cause I can't go to gilmore instantly since I'm from southern luzon. though I would try to visit them and take them as priority when buying. I have the money already for both configs. just clearing stuffs for finalizing my system. corsair vengeance? or the other corsair series?

I would go with Vengeance, they are 1.50v, most the others are still 1.65v. Your new system will run better on 1.50v.

If you have problems getting it to post the first time, you are going to need some RAM setting adjustments with 16GB RAM.

There are no extra 4 cores on the 2600. Both are 4 cores. Only go with the 2600 if you think you might benefit from hyperthreading. Read up on hyperthreading and the difference between i an more cores.

The motherboard manufacturers have a Qualified Vendor List (QVL) for memory. Usually these are not complete. What I do is go to the memory manufacturers web pages, find their memory configurator, input the motherboard model, and pick from the resulting list. Memory for the motherboard should work with either the 2500 or 2600.

There should be no difference between these processors in gaming. For video encoding you might get a little better performance with hyperthreading on the 2600. Both have the same enhanced hardware transcoding support.

Niether gaming nor video transcoding will benefit significantly from higher MHz RAM.

Ah, I responded to your first post.

There are many Asus/2500k overclocking guides on the web. Do a search, especially overclockers.net. There is just to much material to post here I think.

BTW, I am upgrading to a Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 + i5 2500k this week. The overclocking should be about the same; it should be easy to OC by 1GHz, but I would do so only after I read up on it some if I were you, especially if this is your first time overclocking.

Many thanks for all the replies. I'm not new to overclocking. But new to overclocking an unlocked processor. My previous experiences were overclocking entry level boards. So, not much overclocking. This is my first time on an unlocked processor and a full tower board. All my previous settings were set to auto. Maybe this case would be much differently. Like setting dram timing manually. Clock ratios. Vcore voltages. Unlike entry boards. By the way. Tomorrow's the day! Quite excited!. Hahaha

Seems like each new 'tick' CPU version has different ways to OC, so it is good the read a few guides.

For lite OC'ing leaving your RAM on 'Auto' settings is usually ok.
When going for higher OC's it's better to set the frequencies, timings and voltages manually.
If you get an unstable high OC you can usually help to get it stable by lowering/relaxing the RAM settings.
