Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound card issue

I have put the sound card into my computer and made sure that I've hooked up everything correctly, but I have ran into a problem with it. When I ran the download "Product Identification Module Update" from the Creative website, it's telling me that I don't have the right OS, and tells me to update to Windows 7 or later versions. Well, my problem is that I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, which I know is plenty new, and I don't understand why it's not letting me download the update/driver for the sound card. Please do help if you are able to

MrRatigan, Welcome to SF. Check to make sure that you have fully updated W7 and then double check and see if the Creative downloads will take then.

I have just checked and there were no updates for it, and I checked to see if I had the latest version of the Service Pack, and I do, which is 1.

I would forget about the product detection download and go straight for the proper drivers for your model sound card.

Agreed. Only install what is needed and you only need that if the drivers tell you they cant find your sound card. Also I highly recommend avoiding the creative driver from windows update. Make sure to hide that if you see it as an update.

I've had good luck with DanielK's "support pack" (v. 2.5 is the latest, I believe):

The good/bad feature is that by default it installs everything.

As far as I know, none of the drivers or applications in at have been modified. It's simply a bundling of a bunch of stuff from Creative and Auzentech.

Only downloading just the driver, it gives me this: Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Please ensure that your product is properly installed before running this Setup program.


I have it put in the computer correctly and everything, but I can't figure out why it won't detect it at all

Could the bios need to be set to turn on or see the card in it's PCI slot? Just thinking that it could be a setting in bios turning off something or turning on something?

That is weird. I've always used x-fi cards and never once did I have this issue.
But at this point try uninstalling all creative software installed -if any- and from the device manager right click on the device (should be with a yellow ?) and uninstall it while also checking the box to delete all drivers for it just to be sure.
Shut down the pc and remove it from the system. On reboot enter the bios and make sure on board sound is disabled. Let windows load as usual. Shut down again and insert the x-fi once again, preferably in another pci slot if available. Let windows load again and proceed to installing the drivers in administrator mode. Right click on the creative drivers and select Run as Administrator regardless.
I hope that will do it as I would not know what else to suggest

I'm afraid that I did all that and it tells me the same thing as before whenever I try to install it.

What are the chances the sound card could be bad? You may want to call the manufacturer for help or to RMA the card.

That is also so, I never thought about that. Hmm.... I will have to get ahold of the manufacturer whenever I get the opportunity.

Yeah it will have to be during their business hours which is a pain but often I find that's the best call when nothing else I can think of is working. As you know it's really not all that tough. If the device is showing in device manager then it would be settings but when it's not and there's no bios setting to turn on or off then all things point to bad card. Please keep us in the loop so we can learn from this as well!
