Solved GTX 680 4GB or HD 7970 6GB?

i'm going to build a new pc with an i7 3770k, an asus P8Z77-v Deluxe and 8GB DDR3 @2400 MHz...

Which GPU is better for this pc? GTX 680 4GB or HD 7970 6GB? I will use it for heavy HD gaming... And maybe in future i could SLI/Crossfire it...

But keep in mind the Hd 7970 is cheaper and the 680 4gb isn't beating it by a super big margin

It would be up to you i am running two HD7970's in CF and they work well for me like im saying though how much are you trying to spend

go for 7970 it's cheap and well they both can fly games to the max so if a person like me playing game over one of them would'nt even notice and worried about a frame or two goin' or down or up! I'll just keep on shooting whatever comes in my way! talking about gameplay

It all depends on the resolution you play in and how many screens you're using.
Anything under and up to 1920x1080 doesn't really need more than 2Gb of RAM on it. Not even for 2 screens of that size.
Once you start using 3 screens and play in surround or in 3D, then you can think of going for the 4Gb versions (or 6Gb ones).
As for which to get - your budget, your preference, your choice. AMD-fans will swear by one, nVidia by the other.

Research the web, find comparisons between the two cards, see which one comes out on top for the application you use most and pick that one if you're neither AMD or nVidia fan.

I prefer Nvidia to ATI because of Physx, better AA (for example GTS 450 owns HD 5750/5770 on it) and 3D vision in low/mid range GPUs.
In another pc I owned an HD 5670 which I immediatly replaced with a GTS 450 because it had a lot of drivers/pci express issues.

In my experience, ATI cards are better of same-range Nvidia cards only in AGP versions.
So I want to buy a Nvidia card for this pc if possible.

I'm looking to save money to get the GTX 690... or is better to get 2 GTX 680 in SLI?

I want to play heavy 3D games at max settings @1920x1080 (i'm looking for a single super-widescreen monitor too) at full framerate... I'm sure that both HD 7970 and GTX 680 will do it right, but i use a lot physic accelleration in games, so i prefer Nvidia cards.

The GPU will work with a Core i7 3770k (or with an AMD FX 8150 or with a 6-core [12 threads] i7), and 8GB DDR3 @2400MHz RAM.

For the Core i7 3770k i chose an ASUS asus p8z77-v DELUXE motherboard (which supports SLI/Crossfire and PCI Express 3.0)

just to know if the HD 7970 is a lot slower than the GTX 680, but the performance difference seems to be 10-15%

Yes, i want an Nvidia card, but i'm not going to spend 100-150€ more to get 10% more graphics performance between two GPUs...

So... For example, if i get an ATI card, how can i render Physx?

Your CPU can handle PhysX constraints while your graphics card handles graphics.

rendering Physx with CPU will slow down the system a lot... i tested it with my C2D and GTS 450...

And CPU rendered physx is not a gaming option. Watch 2 thirds of your framerate drop right there, if not more.

When it comes to non-nvidia cards and physx, the rule of thumb is to leave physx off.

in fact i want a Nvidia card or a dedicated PPU because i really use a lot Physx...
Physx rendered by CPU sucks, and some apps/games which i use require a dedicated PPU!

From what ive read GTX670 are not that far behind (depending on supplier) and £4£ are better value.

For the price there is very little to choose between them, similar graphics levels for a better return in power and heat, one of my colegues at work just installed one ultra on all games no bother.

It's good to want Top of the line but this is really overkill

Cant comment on the manufacturer but the specs look OK you may want to beef up the CPU cooler though.
As for the 690 from what i've read it is not all that and for the cost you could easily sli 2 670 and get better results, Some of the review sites hint that it is more about bragging rites and less about usablity get the 670 it will do all you need to do, and with less problems.
