Windows 7 x64 I'd go with. In my opinion it has better performance then XP (but it could be because my laptop wasn't really XP-Ready lol, damn you Vista!)

So.. yeah my vote is Windows 7. :) I promise you, you will not regret getting Windows 7!

W7 of course. Why would you want to go with an "antique" (in Tech terms) OS, when a brand spanking new OS is available and it just happens to be the best product MS has produced since XP, possibly ever?

XP was great in its day, but its day is over. It's time to move on and embrace the future, which, for the moment, is Win 7.

It's great. Enjoy it.

As others have said, driver support for 64-bit XP is pretty poor. And that OS is only going to be supported for another few years.

Based on my experiences with Vista and Windows 7...I would go with 7 without question. It's been very solid and stable for me.

While 16 is a nice number, it's not exactly divisible by 3 thus ruining the triple channel RAM setup. So, I would personally recommend staying with 12.

You would even be better off with Vista x64 over XP Pro x64 in regards to driver / application support.

Considering your hardware and usage, Seven x64 is the logical choice.

Based on my experience of Windows 7, I would make 100% sure that there are stable drivers available before plumping for it; this applies particularly to the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800, my past experience with Quadro FX drivers has not been great (Seismic Micro-Technology workstation).

My nvidia gpu (a lowly quadro FX 570m) is better supported under 7 than it was under Vista even with the
"pre-release WDDM 1.1" driver installed by W7, in the sense that it just works better. My 3d gaming performance is significantly improved.

If I have any serious work to do .. I’m staying with XP as long as I can.
The inability to have Icons on my desktop, Customize my R Click context menus or make new taskbars …
Makes W7 a major pain to work in .. When working with Images.

If you haven’t been spoiled with these missing XP tools .. Then go for W7

Above is one of my desktops.

Somebody suggesting going with 16GB of RAM instead earlier. However, with Core i7's and triple channel support, I'm understanding that you want to install 3 sticks of RAM at a time. So, the typical installed quantities are usually
3 x 2GB = 6GB
3 x 4GB = 12GB
3 x 8GB = 24GB

It would appear to me that all of the hardware you listed was designed for 64bit. Win 7 is is best 64bit PC OS available.
