Windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry

Ok I’ve done this and same error as before
On start up always:
File \boot\bcd
Status 0x0000098
Info: the windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry
On start up repair I always get
Searching for windows installations and it doesn’t find anything, after this I run Start up repair and this always returns
Problem signature 7: no OS installed
Tried this 4 times and always the same messages.
I think we should try making the partition active that contains windows and user what do you think?

You did "attrib -h -s c:\boot\bcd" and it was succesfully?
you did "del c:\boot\bcd" afterwards succesfully?
Then inmediately try to boot normally (no startup repair yet). Still 0x0000098?

Partition 1: Recovery 15GB =>not active.. is for recovery. Not interested
Partition 2: Primary 225GB=>ACTIVE. Called C
Partition 3: Primary 221GB=>called D
Partition4: OEM 3565MB=>driver stuff, specila for this computer model. Not interested

[COLOR=black]attrib  D:\boot\bcd

Sure they are both gone?

dir c:\users[/COLOR]
[COLOR=black]dir d:\users

What drive leter has the users folder with usernames that you are familiar with.

Thanks I agree with you re drives. I ran the commands you mentioned and it posted the following:

Attrib C:\boot\bcd
A C:\boot\bcd

on the D drive the same command returned
D: Path not found - D :\boot

for the dir C: \users and D: \Users both returned file not found.

I'm not sure what you mean re drive letter with usernames folder I'm familiar with. As I'm not familiar with this.. I only see a users folder in the recovery partition I'm afraid is this a catastrophe?

C:\windows folder is on disk?
C:\boot\bcd is gone now?

C: windows returns file not found..

means I've probably lost everything unless there's a way to undelete it if it has been deleted or corrupted. you can be assured that I didn't delete it..

this shows hidden stuff as well. Nothing found at all?

It should list the amount of files/folders. and th space available on disk. What amount of space is available?

Or run NOTEPAD from command prompt. then: file->open. Now you can explore the drives.

I don't exactly know what's happened but I think I've lost a load of data here, I AM sure there was a load more than this. Maybe all the repairs I've tried to do has knackered something..Is there any undelete utilities that I could use?

Startup repair doesn't delete that! Is C and D drive empty? What folders do you have in the root of C and D?

How many bytes available?

When booting from disk I get the message the file
File: \Boot\BCD Status 0XC0000098
Info: The windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS Entry

No OS on DISK.

These messages were and are correct.

the dir /ah C: shows 7 files at 5GB in size, 186GB free. dir /as C: shows the same
the dir /ah d: shows 0 files at 237GB free. dir /D: as shows the same

notepad shows the C: drive as 173GB free of 225GB yet the notepad files do not amount to 52GB...
the D drive may have been correct as this was not a heavily hit machine. I just don't know where my programs and everything else has went...it's as if something has wiped these files...rather strange..

I assume it's pointless trying any undelete utilities?

I wonder how to rebuild this as it was bought as a vista machine and came with an upgrade CD for win 7..

I have a copy of windows 7 but I don't know if the serial numbers from my machine would match these..

So C and D are almost empty?
What is still on C and D .... old stuff?

Yeah looks like it.. just files acer, book, clssetup, engis_drive, intel, oem, perflogs, temp and partition...
still don't understand this....
