WMC not available as an autoplay option

http://www.mikinho.com/wmc/fix/autoplay-dvd-movie.reg

let me know if it helps.
the reg key worked perfectly. Now another challenge--- getting or creating a plugin for wmc (win 7 x64) so you can open wmc go to movies (pre select harddrive to scan) have it show the names of dvd video iso's (image files) that are on the harddrive be able to select one and wmc will mount it and play it.

For mounting disc images check out another plugin of mine: Mount Image (iso) in Native Movie Library and\or Video Library - The Green Button. The publicly available version requires you to hit More -> Mount Image but it is a start.

I asked the same question about playing DVDs in WMC instead of WMP and was directed here for the answer. This thread and the links do indeed answer my initial question and offer me a solution should I choose to use it.

After reading through this thread I guess a more pertinent question would be:

Is there any advantage to playing DVDs in WMC over playing them in WMP?

With the follow up questions:

What are the intended uses of WMC and WMP?

and

Does Microsoft intend to merge the two applications?

I'd be happy to put these into a new thread if necessary.

My thoughts: Windows Media Player has been then basic media player for quite some time now for Windows based PC's. Media Center PC's first came out around 2005. It was surely a conscious decision on MS's part to included WMC in the Home premium versions and higher with Vista and now W7 to support Media Center users. One does not have to use either. WMC includes what I consider to be more robust features and is generally intended for the home entusiast who does not struggle with their hardware or it's setup.

I would think this question would best be posed to MS Marketing and Engineering.

What about CD's?

I know, it seems not too clever to play cd's in wmc, but wmc interacts with my minidisplay on my HTPC (origen S14 case) quite nicely, and I would like to enable CD playing without turing on the TV.

Here you go

Note: I did not test it (I don't have any CDs handy) but I check the classes and string tables so it should work.

I have to use WMC to play DVDs on Win 7. WMP gives me an error message and won't play them.

I just built a new home theater PC and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a new, empty hard drive. The Windows 7 came from the Microsoft Store three weeks ago. When I try to play a DVD rented from Blockbuster or purchased from my local store, the following message appears:
"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."
My new PC has the latest drivers because I just built it and downloaded all of the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website to get it up and running. I tried using DVI and RGB connections to an LCD display with the same result. However DVDs play fine in WMC.

Do you have any suggestions about how to fix this problem? My hardware setup appears below.
Thanks! Mark

Thanks Mikinho!!

It works like a charm!

This truly improved the WAF of my HTPC, which has lagging a bit behind since I threw out the CD player. For some reason, she has not accepted the SqueezeBox as a good replacement.

Now, the VFD on the case got a reasonable meaning, thanks to you!
