I'm currently running a AMD 6450 HD GPU on a ddr3 and I get low fps while gaming. Are there any good graphics cards that I can get for a 550w power supply that are compatable with my system?

Chiefmax? I had one of those 550W models and its inside is not saying "I can do 550W", better buy a new one like Corsair, Seasonic and any other 80Plus certified power supplies.

You can get a good PSU for 60 or 80 dollars that would be powerful enough for any GPU you could buy for 170 to 190; 250 for both pieces.

Look for the Seasonic G series. There are models at 360, 450, 550 watts.

You haven't indicated what your machine's case is. That's really more important than the PSU.

The HD6450 you currently have is probably a low-profile card which can be used in a small-form factor (SFF) case. The retail card also comes with a full-size bracket that can be swapped with the half-size bracket, so that you can actually use the card in either a SFF or tower case.

But only a tower case will handle a full-size card (which of course requires a full-size bracket). The EVGA 750ti (and SC) family of cards are full-size. They are excellent cards, require very little power (i.e. they do not even need additional 6-pin PCIe power connection to the PSU, but survive simply on the PCIe bus), and provide terrific performance for the price (around $130-$150). But they are full-size, so they can't be used in a SFF case if that's what you have.

EVGA - Products - EVGA GeForce GTX 750 2GB FTW w/ EVGA ACX Cooling - 02G-P4-2758-KR

Get everything directly from EVGA, and do not forget to register the PSU and GPU at evga.com after you get them :)

I posted what I think is EVGA`s best low priced PSU, as I would never go with less then at least 550 watts.

And I would never get a card with less then 2 GB of memory.

That comes to $239.98, shipping is very cheap with EVGA and they don`t charge tax, not for me anyway. And they have excellent warranties.

You would be set for a longtime :)

PSU Warranty:

This product comes with a 5 year limited warranty with registration.
EVGA offers several warranty solutions for our customers to choose from. Please refer to the suffix of the part number and our Warranty Terms for details.

GPU Warranty:

This product comes with a 3 year warranty. Registration is recommended.

And the 750 Ti

EVGA - Products - EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti w/ EVGA ACX Cooling - 02G-P4-3755-KR

Pick out what you`d like to get then compare the prices between Newegg and EVGA, including tax and shipping, Newegg can really get you on tax.

Perfect. Tower.

So you can get any full-size card.

Again, the EVGA GeForce 750ti family is very low-power, while providing terrific performance, while being priced right. It can be used just fine in machines with a 280W PSU (e.g. standard Lenovo mid-tower boxes like the M93p), so for sure your 550W PSU is acceptable as-is. No need to change it, and there's no 6-pin power connection needed from PSU to the card. It's very low-power, that's it's real claim to fame for providing great performance at low-power.

But, if you want to get a super-card which requires lots of power, you're better off taking the advice from others. I'm not a gamer myself, so for me a 750ti SC would be an excellent choice to stay within budget.
