Hi there, newbie here, pls be gentle.

Have a Laptop which used to work absolutely fine but then I upgraded to Windows 10 but one of my favourite games won't play properly and have found out it's an issue /conflict with W10 - so I'd like to go back to Windows 7 if I can.
Questions are:

My Machine is 64bit but I have an original Windows 7 32bit disc etc, can i use that? If so, would there be any performance issues, someone mentioned the machine would run slower due to suppressed RAM usage (currently have 8gb and need every bit of it for the game)

Any advice greatly appreciated, if not I'll just throw this lappy and buy a brand new one with Win7 on it, wish I'd never changed :(

Thanks guys.

Hi,
Yep a reliable system image and recovery disk would of been a great idea before upgrading your previous install
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html

Win-7 64 bit home premium are still available and pretty cheap at Amazon/...
Or you could borrow a friends if the version is the exact same as yours,
A lot cheaper than a new laptop ;)

I did think about that tbh, but I never know what to trust and which disc is going to work the best. They are all over ebay and Amazon and range from £35 to £100 but for some reason I'm loathe to do it... maybe I should have a deeper look into it ... thanks for that.
Oh, it also says that the discs are for "builders" and not "end users" (like myself) how can I get round that or would it be OK?

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
You should be able to easily go back to Win 7 on that machine. See this article: How to Uninstall Windows 10 and Downgrade to Windows 7 or 8.1

Hi,

Thanks for that but it seems that's different to my situation.
I bought my laptop with Windows 8.1 on it and only upgraded to Windows 10 recently (like most) and I didn't really like Windows 8.1 (although the game worked well with that) but ideally if I'm going to revert backwards I would rather go to the one that was always the best imo and that's Windows 7.

I'll have to have a think about it :)

Thanks again for all your help.

You can still buy a Windows 7 64-bit license that would allow you to use all 8 gb of your RAM. You can't use over 3 plus with 32 bit.

Hi there

Yup, thanks for that, understand now but what about the question I posed regarding the installation of it as an end user and not a "builder" ? I can buy one from Amazon sure, or ebay or other retailer but they all stipulate they should be used by machine builders and not end users for up/downgrades... is there any way round this?
I need all 8gb I have so wouldn't consider going down to 32bit as I said...

Cheers

You can use a so-called "System Builder's" version like these:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - Operating Systems - Newegg.com

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit - Operating Systems - Newegg.com

Professional or Home Premium; take your pick;

I'd be careful about where I bought it.

Ebay: no

Amazon; ok if you buy from Amazon DIRECTLY rather than from someone selling on Amazon.

Newegg: ok

It's been a long time since I heard about anyone having problems with System Builder versions.

You MIGHT have a problem if at some time in the future you replace the motherboard in your PC.

I assume you have some type of laptop, so a change of motherboards isn't likely.

You can contact Acer and see what they suggest as far as a software to recover your install I did that a while back and got one for it which it shows as a retail version

I also have a oem/ system builders 64 bit home premium disk that was about 100.us it activated just fine
Just don't buy it from EBay
Amazon wise it's best to buy products sold and
If with doubt refer to legitimate software companies in your area but first place should be the manufacture of the machine
This is sold and shipped by Amazon it just states a Clean install is necessary but you can ask Acer support too and verify,

Yea they added the OEI stuff to it which isn't listed on any u.s. listing :/
First look at it seems fine
The builders support deal is just saying you are the supporter of the install not Acer......
So if you have issues come here and ask for support for drivers....... if you have issues finding them :)

Heck you can get a 8 or 8.1 install iso from here

Yea they added the OEI stuff to it which isn't listed on any u.s. listing :/
First look at it seems fine
The builders support deal is just saying you are the supporter of the install not Acer......
So if you have issues come here and ask for support for drivers....... if you have issues finding them :)

Heck you can get a 8 or 8.1 install iso from here
Clean Install - Windows 8

Thanks for that... tbh, if I'm going back I would go back to 7 rather than 8.1, I can rollback to that easily enough with a click here, but would prefer a fresh install with 7 that will see me through for the next year or so.

Cheers.

Hi,
If that's the case then just buy another ssd or hdd to put the new win-7 install on
Then your present install of win-10 is unaffected

Switch back and forth it's an old fashion dual boot :)
