that's actually a good thing, townsbg. Pro and Enterprise (and embedded) editions of Win7 will not be receiving KB4493132.


and as I read this recent blog, KB4493132 seems to have been re-released yesterday:

As per your link erpster I checked my updates and 3132 was back and marked important. The first time I hid it two weeks ago? It was marked recommended.

When I checked installed, hidden, and history it was no where to be found but as soon as I hid this new one it was in hidden as recommended.

But, I hid an important one!

This is the exact reason I tell people not to hide updates if they're not classed as Important. Because if it gets reissued as v2, v3, etc, etc, it will be unhidden and show up once again in your list. That's when people will start shouting it's another GWX or Malware at that point. If you were to keep it in the optional list and it gets reissued, you won't even notice it's been reissued.

That's the reason KB2952664 (the infamous telemetry update), reappeared on several occasions when it was hidden. Because they reissued at least 20 different versions of that update (think it's on v24 now). Hiding an update won't keep it hidden if a new version gets reissued, because it's classed as a new update. Sounds like they've reissued this as an important update as some people were having installation issues with the first.

TL;DR If you hide it and it reappears, it isn't a conspiracy or Malware, it's just a new version of the update.

Well I wouldn't downgrade and I don't own an ultimate license. Also Windows anytime upgrade is until the next OS is released so that ended when 8 was released. So really it isn't "anytime." I haven't checked my Mom's. She's on pro.

Pity not everyone thinks the same way as you, Anak.
While I'm not MS biggest fan lately and have moved away from nearly all their products now, I'm not one to start scaremongering either.

I'm always trying to help people when it comes to MS updates, but I've seen plenty of people getting peed off in multiple threads, and shouting malware/virus/spyware, every time a new update gets reissued. It's totally unnecessary.
Just trying to put people's minds at ease. Although, I'm probably completely wasting my time, as some will still think it's an MS evil masterplan at work.

My comment wasn't aimed at anyone BTW, and hopefully didn't cause offence. It was more a pre-emptive, as I can see what's coming in the comments after this update gets reissued, for whatever reason. Happens in a lot of threads/forums these days unfortunately. Certain websites with their OTT articles just fuel it and get people wound up.

I just don't get why people are complaining about this update, when XP had an EOL notification too, they didn't say it was malicious then. There is only one file in this update, with one sole purpose, so I don't get how it's classed as "sinister". It's hardly a pushy update, and definitely isn't another GWX situation.

Unsubbing now and forgetting about this update anyway, before I get dragged into another debate with others on what the definition of Malware is/should be. I've been down that road before!

Good catch about reappearing updates, if one knows something is malicious, remaining on the "pending" list forever is another tactic to avoid it, and MS will just keep reissuing the malware over and over if they can profit from it.

I'll disagree about the reason it's considered malware. It's NOT because it keeps reappearing over and over (that can be a good thing if an update causes problems and is reissued to solve them). This, GWX, telemetry and some others are malware because they act like one, they install without user consent or knowledge, they do things against the user intention and use the computer against user best interest.
Example of that are extracting information from the computer for commercial use, displaying ads without explicit consent, or forcibly downgrading to Windows 10 without explicit approval. Clearly, not something the user chose, it fits the definition of what in IT is known as "malware".

I uninstalled, but I can't move it to Optional because it disappeared from the list. If it pops up again, how would I move it to the Optional list?

We're thinking it might be malicious because MS lost the tiny bit of trust we still had in them by adding telemetry to their updates.

Yep, even using a brute force tactic, I can't seem to get it to move to the Optional sector, so I just hid it again.

More specifically, this update will not install on devices running Professional and Enterprise editions of Windows 7 as well as Windows Server products. We recognize that organizations typically have an IT Pro managing system configuration and Windows 10 deployments. I'm wondering if it might be prudent to stay off of the Internet on a Windows 7 installation around the time of Windows 7's end of life.

I worry about whether or not Microsoft will try to pull something. Perhaps it might be better for me to use TinyCore to access the Web at around that time.

Just wondering if anyone else has thought about this.

I don't think that they will try to pull something on 7, except nags. BTW it's end of support not end of life.
