Jumplist

Hi all--

I have Firefox pinned to the start menu on both my laptop and the desktop. My laptop doesn't display a jumplist in the Start Menu and the desktop does. Other programs have jumplists, but they are handy. My Firefox jumplist isn't handy.

How can I remove the jumplist entries on my desktop so that no jumplist arrow is displayed?

I tried to "remove from this list," but there are hundreds(?) of entries in the jumplist.
I cleared the brower's history to no avail.
Thanks all.

Do you want to just disable jumplists all together? You can right click on the taskbar, properties-start menu tab-un check Store and display recently opened items in the stasrt menu and taskbar.

No, I just want Firefox to not display a jumplist. Every once in a while, my laptop will display a FF jumplist, but there's usually only one entry there to "remove this item" and the jumplist disappears. My desktop displays a jumplist with too many files to remove manually.
Like i said, the other jumplists are handy.

Hmm, I 'm not aware of any way to selectively turn off jumplists for a specific program.

While on this topic, does anybody know how to remove the jumplists completely? I want the old right-click menu to show by default (currently it shows on Shift+right-click). Ideally, i want to reverse the Shift key and have old menu to show without Shift and jump list to show with Shift.

My main beef with the new menu is that it "jumps". I use the right-click menu to close applications all the time. Before I could right-click, move the mouse few pixes, then left-click to close a button. Now the "close" item is much farther and also smaller. So it is more difficult to hit with the mouse.

Are you running a pre-release version of Firefox? Their latest released version doesn't support jumplists. Windows does not support any way to disable a single applications jumplist. You can only turn them all off. If any particular application doesn't have a useful jumplist it is up to the application developer to fix it.

There is no supported way to swap the behaviors.
Just throwing this out there but did you know you could middle-click on the thumbnail to close a window? If your setup allows for middle clicking this is a much larger hit target for closing a window then even the old right-click close.

Ivo? Does Airbot's reply help?

Airbot?

Neither do I...which is kinda why I'm asking. :)
If there's a way to delete the files in the jumplist......

I'm running FF 3.5.5...and appears to support jumplists.

No, that's not what I'm after. I don't really care what's in the jumplist. I expect on the rare occasion when I need them, having extra items will not be a problem.

I want the standard window menu to appear right where the mouse is. I just found this: http://rammichael.com/?proj=29. I'm going to give it a try tonight.

I also tried middle-click on the task button, but that didn't work. I will try middle-clicking on the thumbnail.

I found a way to disable custom destinations for a single app but it isn't very pretty.

1) Navigate to %userprofile%\Recent\CustomDestinations
2) Locate the .customdestinations-ms that corresponds to the app. I did this but sorting by last modified and basically guessing
3) Make sure your app (firefox) is closed and then open the file and delete all the contents
4) Mark the file read-only

This should prevent custom destinations for that particular app.

You're right Mister...an ugly alternative.

I will offer this nugget:

When my laptop DOES create a jumplist, it seems to only include .html files that I've opened from my hard drive. Otherwise, my laptop "Firefox" (pinned to the Start menu) ignores files I've browsed from the Internet.

Firefox 3.5.5 does not support custom jumplists. This means that Firefox itself is not populating the list. The list is being populated automatically by Windows through the common file dialog and SHAddToRecentDocuments API. The newer pre-release versions of Firefox do add custom jumplists and I'll assume they will have an option to turn them off before they release (I couldn't find it as of now).
