How do you share a dial up connection?

I am using a dial up wireless internet modem on one computer and wish to share this connection across the entire home group.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I would think you need to set one up in Network and Sharing Centre, then in Sharing tab in Properties, select the appropriate option. Give it a go.

I never seen a dial up wireless modem, yet I'm assuming that because it's wireless it's getting an IP address via DHCP. Is this a good assumption?

If so, is that IP being used as the Gateway on the computer it's currently working on?

Um well basically it is a wireless modem and the connection is listed as a dial up connection. And when i connect to it, it is as if i am connecting to a dial up connection.

I have the computers in the network all joined to the same home group on the wireless network.

On the computer that dials the connection i tried sharing the dial up connection in the sharing tab over my wireless network, but the internet would not work on the other computers.

I also tried going to the sharing tab on the connection to the wireless network itself and checking the box to share the connecting computers internet connection over the network.

Neither method has worked.

The other thing i have considered trying is setting the the default gateway on the other computers in the network to the connecting computers ip, but when i do this it forces me to have to enter a primary and secondary dns server, and won't allow them to be detected automatically.

Ok i now also tried merging the location of the wireless network and the dial up wireless broadband, so they appeared as one network with internet access, so i went to the sharing tab and told it to share the internet over the network.

This did not work either.

You may need to have a second onboard NIC facility, and create a bridge between the 'dial-up' connection and the second ethernet port.

If you bridge these twp types, which will become of the connection? I don't think bridging these two types will work that well.

I would think you would either go dial-up or broadband on your network.

Im really having trouble understanding what i am supposed to do.

Ok my latest attempt, i set up a ad hoc wireless network on my laptop that connects to the internet, i went into the wireless adapter settings and set its ip to 192.168.1.1, its subnet auto filled and i left the default gateway blank, i also filled in the dns servers with two working ones i know of.

On the second laptop i connected to the ad hoc network on the first laptop, i set the wireless adapter settings on the second laptop up, with an ip of 192.168.1.2, auto filled sub net and a default gate way of 192.168.1.1.

The internet connection which shows up as a separate network had the three check boxes on the sharing tab checked, both computers could share files back and forth, so i tried the internet, no luck.

So on the first laptop, the one that connects to the internet i merged the internet connection network and the wireless ad hoc network together.

Still i could share files etc, but still no luck with the internet connection.

Does anyone have any idea of what im doing wrong?

Not all wifi devices support bridging or necessarily support ICS (internet connection sharing) and if yours falls into this category then you may need alternate hardware.

You may be doing nothing wrong. I'd look up the technical specifications of the device and make a decision based on what you find as to whether you continue to attempt what you want to do, with your existing hardware, or with something else.
