Should I buy a Mac???

Hi,

I currently have 2 hp laptops and like them alot. However, I have problems with hp's reliability and recently saw in pcworld's latest tests that hp is the worst.

I was thinking about buying something new. A friend of my recently bought a mac, so I thought I would do some research. On the apple website they say that macs can run Windows through bootcamp.

Would buying a mac be worth the investment? I wouldn't use OS X so I wouldnt have to worry about compatibilty

Mac is really a nice piece of construction but I really hate it, not too many programs are built for Mac compared to windows, yet if bought for photo editing and just MSN, Facebook and such go for Mac, they dont **** themself up like PCes do... But if you like to Game Ones in a while, then I wouldnt reccomend it xD.

I know many who has Mac, their pleased but they have noticed that it takes about 1 min longer to start it up, sadly they prob havent cleared the cache and stuff so I cannot say that for certain xD

-If you want a mac, if you need a mac, and if you barely Game, then take a mac

Mac's are pricey...this isn't a shock to anybody. And as far as not getting screwed up....part of the reason is that they are locked down and you can only do things Apple's way or Apple's way...which when you are used to customizing however you want...can be a bit of a letdown.

I'd look into either a Dell, Asus or Lenovo Thinkpad if I were you. Should be able to get a better system spec wise for less money versus the Apple.

I've been using a 13.1" MacBook at home for about 2 weeks that I borrowed from work. Lets just say that it's fine...but there is no way that I will be buying a MacBook anytime soon.

I have the luxury of having both. But my advice is if your into graphics or High end audio recording then go MAC. For everything else PC is realistically the most affordable option. But this is just my opinion.

My father was a pc guy for a long time. He retired, got deep into photography and thought it would be a good idea to buy a mac (he liked the commercials). At this point, I think he knows everyone at customer support by their first name. His avg call times are nearing the 3 hour mark and he's not as excited as he once was.

Mac is more reliable, but this is only because Apple controlls all you access, + the **** with MAC not having Virus is bull ****, atm it dosent but as its so restricted, and the market is relatively small, no virus creaters have really dedicated themself to crack the almigthy Mac Code.

Mac hardware is just like any other hardware...it certainly can have problems. If you don't believe that, spend about 1 hour outside of an Apple store and count the number of people walking in the door lugging some MAC with them which has a problem.

My coworker ( a systems admin/programmer) has an iMac at home as well as numerous PC's. His iMac is only about 1.5 years old and he is on the 3rd hard drive, and 2nd motherboard. On the flip side, he as an iMac on his desk at work and that machine has been just fine.

Dell is a good brand, Asus = NOOO, its so bad its like comparing a Commodore 64 with a Alienware

All of my PC's are HP's except for one Dell and that was given to us. WE have 4 desktops and 2 laptops. In the last 10 years of owning my HP's I have never had a problem with them or getting help from the HP web site, granted this is all during the warranty period. Since my first build, I will never go back to retail again, that being said for myself. I would still buy HP retail for my laptops and desktops for my family and highly recommend HP to anyone. Again this is all up to choice and personal preference. I'm bias and partial to HP.

As far as getting an apple, I like them alot but the cost is what kills me. I can get 2 PC's for the price of one apple. Like cocopara said software for apple is limited but there is a push that is starting to come on and the software makers are aware of this fact. If I could afford it I would switch out all my PC's for apple's but that would involve hocking 2 of my kids and I don't think the wife would go kindly for that. Although every one I have talked to that has made the switch to an apple said that they would never go back to a PC. Again it's down to choice and budget. Good luck which ever way you decide.

Are you talking about Asus here...because they make some solid laptops which get great reviews.

I'm wondering if you mistook Acer for Asus?????

1.) You're gonna spend more money for a Mac.
2.) On top of that you're gonna buy Windows so you don't have to use the Mac OS?

Why don't you save about $1,000 and avoid the Mac middle man?

Buy an Alienware or Sony if you want quality. You get off cheaper and have a much more flexible system.

Macs: Good customer support, compatible hardware, no fuss as you can't put something on it that won't work, Expensive
PCs: Customizable, generally bad customer support, if you don't know what you're doing you'll have problems, Cheap

MAC internal hardware is the same as the PC equivalent.


If you aren't going to touch OSX, then do as others have suggested - look for a better PC brand / specs and save some $$$.

My dead 9600GT shorted, but that could have been a factory glitch. Never bought a factory PC again. Never buying Asus either. Come to think of it, thats an idiotic name for a company.
