Windows Start Button Not Working Right

Hello, I am wondering why my start menu button is not working right. It is supposed to have 3 image states, when your mouse is hovering over it, when it is not in use, and when you click on it. It will not show its third state, when you click on it. I am wondering why this is..? How can I fix this?
Thankyou So Much ! ^^
Sincerely,
Jer.

Are you using a custom start button?

Yup, but that is not the problem =P It is the program I am using to replace the original start menu. It is called 'classic shell' . I use it because I liked the 95/98 start menu better...the reason why is quoted off the site: 'Why doesn't the start button get pressed when I open the start menu?
There is no direct way to control the state of the start button. There is an indirect way but it has some unwanted side effects. You can see them with the program SevenClassicStart (it is the only program I know that makes the start button appear pressed). Open the start menu, then click on some application in the background. The menu closes (as it should) but the application is not activated. You have to click a second time to activate the application. I have decided that the negative effect on the functionality is too great. I prefer to have the correct functionality instead of the correct look of the start button.'
I however would like the correct functionality & look of the start menu button, I don't care for my applications not getting selected going from start menu to desktop application... so I am asking on there how to do that...unless you know how..?
Thankyou! ^^

The problem isn't that I did or did not run it in admin. The person who created the program decided to not include the 3rd state of the start button.

There are 2 ways I could have written the code. Each has its pros and cons. The two methods are sufficiently different, so it is not practical to support both. I chose the one that offers better functionality over better looks.

Hey =P How are you..? Vacation is going well?
Hmm...'The two methods are sufficiently different so it is not practical to support both.' so... it is kind of like trying to make an opperating system that is 32bit and 64bit? ( instead of one or the other?) Can I still change it to have the look over funtionality? ( lol I find it the opposite of what you said though, I do not mind the application not being selected after I close the start menu,so I find it that I am losing functionality on the way the start button operates...) Hmm... I could just move the 3rd state up one, but it would look weird if the mouse was to hover over it and change to the third state. Or maybe change it so that there is no second state, just 1st, and 3rd...I am not sure...

Sure you can change it. Download the source code, modify it, and recompile the exe. You will need Visual Studio 2008 (at least Standard) and good understanding of C++ and shell programming.

'the' source code? I am such a noob...I have no clue where I would find this, how to modify it, recompile the exe, ( I cannot install/uninstall any programs ATM so I cannot get Visual Studio on my computer...) And I do not know any shell/C++ programming...
-I am so hopeless... =(

' The two methods are sufficiently different, so it is not practical to support both.' so it would not be practical to choose which one you want when you first install classic shell ( or an in menu option that you can switch between the two? )

Imagine a vacuum cleaner and a toster. They are sufficiently different, so it is not practical to combine both in the same device and make it transform from one to the other at a push of a button. It is not impossible, but no sane person will try to do it, or ask for it to be done.

Maybe a car and a bike is a better example. They all have the same components - an engine, a seat, some wheels. So you can ask - Can we make it a menu option to switch between 4 wheels and 2? Or even better - Can we make it an edit box where I can type how many wheels I want? Again - maybe possible, but not practical.

ok...for me i prefer to edit my startup button manually using reshacker. and usually bmp that u need to change is 01,05,09

backup is a must and editing explorer.exe must be done in a very cautious way

well first time i try to change my start button, im using kishan software . its a nice software unfortunately it doesnt work me. my explorer.exe was messed up and i restarted my pc with a blank desktop because explorer.exe couldnt work. i think ive done enough with reinstall, restore, repair and at the end i just use reshacker to change my start button.

watching orb start button all the time is boring though:p

Hmm...I don't think reshacker would work for me, Ivo created classic shell ( which is the best that I have yet to find for replacing the start menu ) he wanted to make the program more funtional, ( which unfortunatly does not include the 3rd state of the start menu button , just the 1st & 2nd)
- lol when I posted my comment I was saying that Ivo was funny ( I did not see your post...lol)
hmm...maybe I will have to just switch programs for the start menu ...I want to change my start menu to this: http://www.micro.com.pk/it/hardware/image027.jpg with the windows 98 icons and everything ( as opposed to the windows xp icons...) does anyone know of another program that I can use to replace my windows 7 start menu to a classic menu, and have windows 98 icons?
Thanks
- I hate to be giving up on classic shell though...I cannot find a better replacement for it...

Hmm...yeah...sticking with Ivo is the best thing to do because he creates such an awsome program ( that I cannot find an alternative to...I have used many...=P maybe all of them out there...I doubt it though...) But I do not think he will find a new way to control the start button very shortly (well...maybe...he was the one who created classic shell in the first place after all...) Hmm...I think that the simplest way of dealing with the start button for classic shell is to , instead of having just 1st & 2nd state, have 1st and 3rd... ( this would make it so that it would not change when the mouse hovers over it, and I do not use that state anyways... )
Maybe an option to switch between just 1st & 2nd state, 1st& 3rd, 2nd&3rd for the start button, would that be possible?

Hmm...I could suggest the idea to him and see what he thinks of it =P I will do that on his website.
- I hope I don't get shot down though...or told it can be done, but he doesn't want to do it/help with it...or something...
I will ask him , thanks ^^
