IE8 back button not working

A very naughty boy.
i just noticed in the last couple of days that if i click on the back button in IE8 it dosent do anything. i googled and see that i am not the only one but the 'solutions' i see are not helpful. i.e. use firefox or google chrome. Does anyone have a clue about this, and hopefully a real solution.

Go to IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset.
Then restart IE.

cheers dinesh, i saw that fix also, thought i should mention that i just did a restart and the back button is working, but i have read via google this may only be temporary! if it plays up again i will try your suggestion.

It seems Microsoft has not addresed this issue as it is still ongoing and very annoying. Can any one from Microsoft comment on this and work on a fix or are you going to continue too take our money and give us horrible service quality?:mad:

Styles of IE that have had issues for me.

I do apologize for not mentioning it in my OP but I am updated to IE9 at this time. I'm sorry I hadn't said so but the problem was present since I think at least IE7 I believe. Just hoping for something that fixes this until that time I am using Firefox.

Bothersome

I have had the same problem (IE9). The only solution I have found is to right click the back button and select where I want to go back to.

I think this is maybe a problem on particular pages and what they have loaded.

I've never had a problem like this with any browser, so I'll guess a few guesses.

A few other things you might try
  1. lauch without add-ons: iexplore.exe -extoff
  2. clear out your IE temp files
  3. browsing history - check for updates every time I visit a page
  4. view objects - any "helpers"
  5. check your add-ons
  6. turn off hibernation, restart, decide if you need hibernation (turn on if needed)
  7. The Back button and the Forward button in Windows Internet Explorer 8 do not work correctly
  8. turn off suggestions.
try one at a time to see if it helps. Please post what, if any, solves it for you - thanks.
