Diablo 2 is running at very low fps(20-25), did a fresh install of the game and when it finished installing it gave me a message saying there are known compalibility issues with the game but windows searches for them and can't find anything. When I ran it with Xp I was getting like 140+ fps so its something to do with windows 7. I'm running as administrator and 2d direct(also tried 3d direct, didn't change anything). Don't know if anyone knows any solutions to this ancient game

but anything is appreciated!

Okay, I just finished what I said I was going to do. what a trip down memory lane!
Old Diablo II junky and it's been years since I looked again. Lord, pixel graphics! Yay.
Anyway, this was fun. Short story:
Found my old D2 and D2 LOD CD install keys (which had orginally been registered
to the very old battle net account system that was around during game release)
and I had no idea what my old login name / pass was.
So I went to my now current Battle Net account that uses a differ login than my ancient one and which has my now inactive for a year WoW account tied to it and
tried plugging in my ancient CD codes.
IT worked! They gave me new codes and links to download the client for D2 and D2 LoD expansion after I plugged in the old code for that.
Made sure to copy and paste the new codes to a safe spot as they were needed
for the install later.
Downloaded direct from them as the p2p crap was not working at all.
Installed the game fine, zero issues.
Ran the game fine, zero issues. (okay other than my eyes bleeding from the ancient graphics).
Did not try the glide wrapper yet, just the game defaults as is with both direct 3d and direct draw. (Be sure to run the vidtest thing first)
As for your 'issue' with seeing 25 fps limit. There is a reason for that.
The game in offline mode is HARD capped to 25FPS. Period.
In online mode the cap (as I recall) is either totally removed or capped at 60fps. I think totally removed. You can research that via google.
There may be a way around that with 'hacks' for offline but prob not worth it.
The game seems to behave well here with either Windowed mode or full screen.
I intend later today to try the glide patch. Might report back.
P.S. During my install there were no complaints about compatibility from Win 7. Nor have I done anything to the shortcut to force compatibility modes.
I think they did something to the digital download version that updated the installer to fix that issue. Must have as nothing here went wrong or ill during the install.
I still think Torchlight might be better for single play but this has been fun reinstalling. Going to give the default game some time then maybe try and find some old mods I used to use.
Cheers.
