Realtek, Windows 7 64RTM Crackle/static/popping

I'm really at a loss what to do bar buy a seperate sound card, disable all onboard sound and use that.

Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated.

See my prior post a couple pages back. . .After trying everything and sometimes thinking the crackles/pops were gone, only to return after a few reboots, I did get a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium card and disabled the onboard Realtek sound. Not one crackle (and better sond overall) since then.

Get the sound card, try it and if it does not work return it. If it does, let us know.

So I was having similar problem. My on-board sound card (realtek acl888) was crackling and making nasty sounds. even the windows startup was cracking. i thought it was either drivers or bad onboard card. so i updated the drivers but to no avail. then i purchased an old SB Audigy 2 card to test it out. And it did the same thing. If I booted into ubuntu using a live cd it would fix the problem. no cracking. this lead me to think it was 7, or the 64bit drivers.

My Solution: when I first built the computer I intended to do some OC'ing. Which I did. Then ended up leaving it at stock after a while. (may try again later) however i was using Easy Tune v6 from Gigabyte to help with the overclocking.

i figured out that it (Edit:Easy Tune v6) was causing realtime issue performance for my computer. (possibly how it interacts with the processor to do the soft OCing?) by disabling this from starting with my computer and turning it off, this solved my sound problems.

I was VERY HAPPY and I hope you will be too!!

you said that "it" was causing realtime issue performance but it's not clear what "it" was. What did you disable to resolve the problem?

Sorry for being unclear. I had Easy Tune v6 from Gigabyte, set to start automatically. I was originally using it to OC (for testing, then move settings to BIOS), but later was using it to manipulate the fan speed for the processor, by shutting this off and setting it to not start automatically solved the problem for me.

I Have this problem too - sound crackling, buzzing, popping and eventually it slows the pc down and bluescreens or restarts.

However if I reboot when its buzzing or popping it generally is ok for a few hours or days, and it can just go again.

What on earth is it. If it was drivers wouldn't it do it all the time? I reinstalled them all anyway. ATI, Realtek, dunno what else now, and reverted back to old ones.

Is anyone else having the bluescreen business as well?

I just installed the 251 drivers off of cnet, released in the last month or so, and it seems to have fixed my problems.

I tried the 251 drivers and they are not working -- I believe a lot of the reports of successes are false and due to the problem temporarily going away after a restart. After a restart, DPC Latency Checker reveals low latency levels and there is no sound issue. Within 4-5 hours after restart, DPC Latency Checker starts to show higher latency readings and the sound popping and crackling come back.

I'm so fed up with this issue -- About to buy a cheap sound card off of NewEgg.

This is the SOLUTION for Gigabyte motherboards!!!

I had the same issue with pops and crackles. I am using a gigabyte motherboard with eassytune software as well. You don't need to waste money on a whole new separate sound card.
1. Go to gigabyte's website and download their new BIOS drivers for your motherboard. They know about the popping issue whilst using the easytune software and had an updated bios file to fix it.
2. Install gigabytes new bios update. It worked for me. I also told my computer to not bother loading easytune on startup as I don't need it. Although pops are no longer there if I do load it.

I installed many many sound drivers and none ever worked. Some made the problem only very slightly better.

Download the new bios updates and become a happy camper just like me.

you say you are having the same problem with Asus board?, but are you using Asus's program that does the same thing as gigabytes EQ6??
it might be called PC probe II or something like??

For me the issue with popping sound was fixed by turning off real time scanning in MS Security Essentials, but it probably applies for all virus scanners. Forgive if this has been previously mentioned.

I get the same popping/crackling sounds only ingame tho, when i use the dpc thing it shows OFF THE CHART ms in game but on the desktop its ways under 200 while doing anything. My system use to work fine on the games that are having problems now until i used the system restore (return to factory condition), i used it couple of times but this is the first time this happened. The cracking/popping sounds only some out during gameplay!

Found out that the gradual rise in DPC latency is actually due to the "real time protection" scanning by Microsoft Security Essentials AntiMalware Program.

If you are running MS Security Essentials, this is most likely your issue. There is no current fix other than disabling "real time protection":

I have just installed MES but i had the problem before when i was using antivir and avast but before i did a full system restore (restore to factory condition) there where none of these sounds before.

I'm suffering the same problems as people have previously stated about crackle/popping etc. I've recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 Ultimate, no problem with audio or anything previously.

My problem is that youtube, bbc iplayer all stream with no problem to audio and video. Mine only seem to occur when using Itunes, Media Player, VLC etc. I wonder if it's just the case of me needing a new soundcard (one that's definately compatible with Windows 7) or more RAM to run more programs, processes. I have noticed that whilst playing Youtube, If I open up more windows etc, then it begins to lag much like Itunes.

I've updated my drivers for wireless network and soundcard but no change. I wonder if there might be a problem with my BIOS? I'm unsure as I am a complete novice!

Well mommy and daddy gave me back that acer with that problem. They don't want a computer that doesn't work properly either. They didn't sell it back to me but more as a gift of junk. As you know I sent it into acer four times. I was hoping they would find a way to fix it. One of you, I forget who, pinpointed that it was probably the graphics card that it couldn't handle. I did not want to void the warrenty taking it out because apparently acer doesn't want you doing anything at all to your computer. There's some fraud going on there with acer if you ask me.

Well because the warranty is almost up I decided to remove the graphics card. Guess what? that fixed it. I'm a happy camper now. I actually have a functioning machine. The wireless card will cause a spike every now and then and I might hear a pop or a skip every fiveteen minutes or so but that's acceptable and disabling the wireless card when interweb isn't needed solves that problem as well. So four trips and 200 dollars in shipping costs to both sides and that's all that needed to happen. I'm surprised they were absolutely refusing to send me a refurbished emachine or something.

So now I got two working computers. I hope to get many years out of these. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to do high performance gaming on the acer that it was advertised to do. I guess intel graphics are still good enough to do some gaming on lower settings and might even be good enough if I decide to add an external blu ray drive when they become available and are cheap. At least it aint a 25 pound brick is all I can say! Thank you very much for helping me kind people.

Hi I have had the same trouble as most of you guys, DPC spikes up in the red field And i didnt know what too do, I then tryed to disable some of the computer components, startede with the network adaptor , and that was the cause of the problem, but I though
It was IRQ which was conflicking, but it wasent it was Microsoft Sercurity essientiels whick was causing it all. Hope this helps some of you too solve ur problem.

Seems like it's Windows 7 x64 to blame. Something about the way sound is handled is faulty and Microsoft doesn't seem to care. Every other OS I've used, including Vista x64, Linux Mint x64, and Windows XP, have lacked this bad sound issue. It doesn't seem like there's really any good solution. Disabling any of the features that you should be able to have on your computer isn't a solution.

I THINK i've found the problem.
It may be caused by the computer over heating

Use this to find the cpu temperature = Download Speccy 1.05.183 - Download - FileHippo.com

The temperature should be around 40+ to 50+ but my temp reading are showing 60+
So this must be why the problem disappers after a shut down ad the computer temp goes down during a shut down(i think)

Please post ur cpu temp here to confirm or kick this theory out

Good luck getting this resolved. I gave up on my system after replacing every component including the motherboard and Power Supply. So I foolishly went out and bought a new computer. An HP HPE-150f running Windows 7 x64. Guess what? Exactly the same problem. The only common factor is Windows 7 x64. The only workaround is to reboot the computer several times a day.
